“Who was on Lonny’s detail?”
“Mac was the only one on it today. He’s the one who called it in.”
“Where is he? I want to speak to him.”
Balor stays silent, pointing behind me. I turn to see more dead bodies scattered about.
“Convenient.”
“I thought you said this would be easy,” Dean spits at Balor. “What the fuck was easy about that?”
“I don’t know what happened, who that was, or why they came prepared to kill us.”
“We were given bad intel.”
Balor gives me a look. “Mac wasn’t like that. He was a good kid.”
“Weren’t we all?”
“What if this ambush was a distraction?” Dean asks.
“Distraction?”
“You said he wanted Gemma. What if he lured us all the way out here to take her?”
I lose the ability to hear anything around me. Dean’s question putting me in a downward spiral. Pulling out my phone, I call Kane. He’s my security guy for the house. He and his team do nothing but protect my estate and everyone in it.
“Kane.”
“Is she okay?”
“Still sleeping, sir.”
Relief slams into me. Thank the fucking saints. “What about the house?”
“Quiet.”
“Keep an eye out.”
“Of course.”
I hang up. “All good.”
Dean and Balor sigh. None of us being able to bear the thought of losing our family. But they are lucky. They don’t have to bear the thought of losing the only woman they’ve ever cared about.I do.
“So what the fuck do we do now?”
“Balor, does your cousin still live in Boston?”
“Alistair? Yeah.”
“Call him. Tell him I need him to pull a job for us.”
“What job?”
“Lonny hits us, we hit back. Raid the house. Kill the men that won’t talk. Beat the ones that do.”
“I’ll talk to him.”
