“Javi!”

He didn’t know how long he had been pacing when he heard his name. He stopped abruptly and turned toward the voice. Lola stood there panting, eyes blown wide with an emotion he couldn’t quite place yet.

The apology fell from his lips immediately, his anger turning into embarrassment. “I’m sorry, Lola. Fuck, did I make it worse? I just couldn’t sit there and let them talk to you like that a second longer. I swear—”

“Javi.”

He was rambling and he knew it. Lola marched right up to him again after calling his name for the second time. He didn’t know if this was the part where she kicked him out. He would go, and although he was embarrassed with how he handled the situation, he didn’t regret his words. They deserved to be called out on their toxic behavior.

“If you want me to go, I will.”

“I want you to shut up.” Her words were a command. One moment she was standing right in front of him and the next she was in his arms, kissing him and stealing the breath from his lungs.

He didn’t respond at first, far too shocked to make any sudden movements. But then his brain kicked in and instinct took over. A low growl left the back of his throat and he kissed her back, moving her against the wall. A low moan left her lips as her body curved to his.

This wasn’t the reaction he was expecting, but it was far better than he deserved.

CHAPTER25

Lola

Because frankly, Lola is the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on. That’s the least impressive thing about her though, because she also has a huge heart and anyone would be lucky enough to call her a friend.

Those words rang through her ears, sending shivers down her entire body. With a few sentences, he had managed to render her senseless, moving only so he could escape the travesty that was her family. Four sets of eyes stared back at her in astonishment, though Archie looked more amused than anything, hiding his smile behind his glass of wine. If only he knew how badly Javi wanted to hurt him. She could feel it in the way his body tensed when he all but threatened him.

As soon as Javi was out of distance, her mother and sister started in on her. “How dare you bring someone so rude and inappropriate to your sister’s wedding week. Do you think of anyone but yourself? And for him to insult Archie? Unacceptable.” Her mother’s scorn cut deep, but she had spent most of her life hardening herself when it came to her. Yet, this time her mother’s anger wasn’t at her…well, not entirely. When Javi was involved, she found herself steeled against her ire.

To her complete amazement, before she had the opportunity to talk back to Mom and inevitably make the situation worse, her father beat her to it. “Enough, Luciana. You are always too hard on Lola. Both you and Marisol”—he shot her sister a disappointed expression—“have grilled Dolores since she arrived. Her young man has had enough. Frankly, I have too.”

She couldn’t have been more stunned if her father had announced he was running away to join the circus. His features relaxed when he turned back toward Lola. “Go check if Javi is alright, princess. And please give him my deepest apologies. This is not how our family normally behaves.” Well, she wasn’t going to burst his bubble and let him know this was exactly how their family behaved, but she appreciated the sentiment regardless.

“Thank you, Daddy.” Lola was tempted to kiss her father, but she would have to lean over Archie and Marisol to do that and she didn’t want to be anywhere near them. The only person she wanted to be with now was Javi. If she knew him like she thought she did, he was off blaming himself for his mishap and probably thought she was pissed.

She wasn’t upset though, not in the least. What she wanted was him, but getting through the labyrinth of the restaurant had been no easy feat. She maneuvered herself through waiters and waitresses and squeezed her ass through too tight tables and chairs nearly on top of one another. At one point she was certain she hit a glass and knocked it over, but she didn’t look back to confirm.

When she finally made it out and didn't see Javi, she got worried. What if he went home? He wouldn’t leave her without saying goodbye. Hell, she hoped he wouldn’t leave at all. Without him, the rest of the trip would be unbearable. And if she was being honest with herself, she had liked having him by her side for reasons unrelated to her family. She liked the way he made her feel and the safety he offered. She also liked how he looked at her when he thought no one was watching.

Maybe there was something there between them that needed to be explored. She just didn’t know how to take that plunge or if she was ready to admit her feelings. It was still too soon; her feelings were too strong and all over the place.

Once she reached the elevators, she found Javi pacing back and forth. He had not noticed her yet, lost in his thoughts. Once again she was struck with a sense of wonder. Standing so close amplified her feelings for him tenfold, passion like she had only felt once before sprang to the surface and she clenched her hands into fists.

Then he noticed her and all the unsaid words he couldn’t share came tumbling from his mouth. Her suspicions had been correct and he thought she was mad at him. The whispered way his name left her lips did nothing to stop the onslaught of his tirade.

“Javi.” Lola tried his name again only to get the same outcome. He wasn’t seeing her. If he was, there would be no question about what she wanted from him. There was only one way to get to him. One way that was a surefire way to get his attention.

Her feet acted of their own volition. Like a hungry viper, she stalked her prey until she was right up on him. One look into his dark eyes and she attacked. Her lips were on his before he could finish his sentence, tasting the dinner he barely touched. Her tongue eagerly parted his lips, exploring the taste of him.

Javi’s body went rigid against hers and not in a sexy way. Had she done something wrong? If she read the signals wrong and was accosting this man, she would never forgive herself. Lola went to pull back, but it was as if a light switched on inside of Javi.

His hard body pressed her back until she hit the wall behind her with enough force that it sent tendrils of pleasure and pain through her. His hands went to her hips, squeezing. They were a mess of tongue, teeth, and saliva. There wasn’t anything light or sweet about this kiss. It was dominating and rough. Everything she needed.

She felt wanton next to him and when he moved closer, pressing his leg between her thighs. Her pussy fluttered for him. Wetness dampened her panties at the friction his knee made.

“Preciosa.” Javi sucked her bottom lip between his, tugging on it. She let out a strangled moan. Any moment anyone could walk by them and see the way Javi had her pinned against the wall and her legs straddling his thigh. They were fully clothed but exposed in so many different ways.

Despite knowing—or maybe even due to knowing—someone could walk by them at any time, it did not stop the proverbial fire that had been lit underneath them. She grabbed his neck to pull him back down to her, kissing him deeply. A long stroke of his tongue met hers and his hands dipped lower to cup her ass.

It was still not enough; it would never be enough. She began to rub herself against his leg, hoping to apply some friction to her needy clit. “Fuck,” Javi growled and that’s when she felt his hard cock press into her leg. “Look at what you do to me, Lola.”
