Lock came up behind me. "Saff, baby, what do you need?"
"I need to punch my brother."
"Oh yes,” he agreed. “If we're punching him, please, sign me up. I’ve been dying to punch him for over a year."
I jabbed my elbow back into Lock. "No, you do not touch him. At least not before I do. I get first dibs. I've been more wronged."
Saff shook her head. "No, I've had more years of being wronged."
I shot her a side-glance. "Yeah, but I'm in love with him, so it's worse."
That broke through her facade, and emotion swept into her eyes. The smile she gave me was soft as she blinked away tears. "I do love to hear that. He doesn't deserve you though because he's an arsehole."
"Don't I know it?"
I squeezed her hand and then headed down the hall to find him.
Unfortunately, he wasn't in his bloody room. None of the doctors or nurses had seen him either.
I checked in on Kira. The guards hadn't seen him in a minute, but he had been there.
When I popped my head in, my sister sneered at me. "Jesus Christ, I don't see you for years, and then you are here all the goddamn time. What the fuck do you want?"
"I know you saw Gabe. Did he tell you where he was going?"
She laughed. "Wait, so after all that, the motherfucker gets himself kidnapped anyway?"
“He's not kidnapped.”
I saw the curiosity creep into her eyes. "Well then, you have misplaced him, I guess. What, he didn't say, 'I want to fuck someone else?' You're not the most beautiful woman on the planet this time, are you?"
I ground my teeth and marched to her bed. "Look, I don't know what your fucking problem is. I know you think I abandoned you, but you're really just acting spoiled and no one wants to be around you. You are bitter and too dumb to realize that when someone is giving you a hint, you don't fight it. You don't hurt them just because you've been hurt. You have a choice. You are choosing to act like this, and I'm done helping you. I'm out."
I turned on my heel. I tried everywhere I thought he might be, but still couldn’t find him. Where the hell was he?
Saff was just about to call a red alert when we checked the surveillance cameras. He’d left on his own with Chris, in a car.
Saff was muttering, "But where the hell is he going?"
Devlin pressed some buttons. "Um, I know where he is now."
I angled my head toward him. "Where is he?"
Devlin's handsome face turned pink, a look I hadn't seen on him before. "Isn't that your flat, Tabatha, ma'am?"
I blinked rapidly. "What the hell?"
Saff's eyes went wide, matching my expression, but Saint and Lachlan were grinning.
"What is wrong with you two morons?"
Lock just shrugged. "Well, looks like he's finally doing what I told him to."
I crossed my arms, ready for this little kernel of wisdom. "Oh yeah? And what's that?"
"Fighting for you."
The bottom fell out of my stomach.
