I nodded, not realizing how much I needed to hear it until just now. "I knew you were hiding me to protect me."

"Yeah, but it was the wrong call, wasn't it, love?"

I blinked away the tears and nodded, easing myself into the driver's seat. "I'll see you soon, Gabe."

He closed the door and watched me pull out of his driveway. Once he turned to go back into the house, I opened the car up and peeled down the road to my designated location. I threw the car into park, reached into my glove box, grabbed my weapon and com unit, and then grabbed the change of clothes. The leggings were easy to put on, but the rest was difficult. I finally gave up and ripped the dress off, tits flying in the wind, and put on my special Kevlar tank and a jacket.

Once I was fully dressed in tactical gear, I followed the route back toward Gabe's house. I knew I was being watched as I approached. I slipped into the shadows and finally eased myself into the backdoor, hoping that the people paying attention could see it. When I slipped into Gabe's living area, he smirked at me from the couch. "Well, I've been waiting for this."

I pulled my weapon and smiled back at him. "You're coming with me."

"Wow, this is awkward. And here I thought you came back for round two."

"Nope. Don't make this difficult, or I will tranq you."

He lifted a brow. That was adlib. Not part of the script. And he knew full well I wasn't going to tranq him because I would have to drag him out of there. He was enormous and weighed a ton. He smirked at me. "Okay, I'm not one to argue with a lady. But just so you know, you'll never get away with this. My team will come for me."

And then I said the words that I worried might be true. "You'll be dead long before anyone ever comes for you."

Gabe

There was something about the inside of the black bag arseholes put over your head. They always managed to smell like gas. I didn't know what they were doing with those bags, but I had questions.

I’d come to an hour ago and we’d been on a plane. It must have been a cargo plane for all the racket it was making. After we landed, I was loaded into a van, and it was another thirty minutes or so before we came to a stop.

Tabatha stood next to me. I knew she'd already been checked for weapons. When I blinked and adjusted to the lights, I sat forward in silence. So, this was the Syndicate? All of them looked like kids. Not much older than some of our younger recruits.

"Which one of you idiots wanted to meet me? I'm here."

There was one I couldn't see standing in the shadows, but I could hear the smirk in his voice when he spoke. "Gabriel Webb. You have been a hard man to get close to."

I frowned. "Am I supposed to know you, dipshit?"

He chuckled. "Oh, someone's getting spicy boys."

"Someone's feeling irritated." I glanced over at Tabatha. "Apparently, you can't trust women."

The bloke from the shadows grinned. "Yeah, well, that'll happen when you just can't help getting your cock wet."

"What the fuck do you want from me?"

"For years, you and your team have tortured us, and you're going to tell us how. Word on the street is you've got Igno, and we need to move fast. You're going to tell us what we need to know. No bullshit."

Tabatha interrupted. "Before you touch him, you give me Kira. Then you can do whatever you want with him."

One of the lads stepped forward, and Tabatha cocked her head. "Please tell your idiotic minion I'm not to be trifled with. I managed to bring in Gabe Webb. Does he really think I'm to be fucked with? Why don't you be a good lad and go get my sister?"

The man from the shadows laughed, a deep guffaw. "Oh God, what I wouldn't give to have you in bed." He turned his attention to me. "I think this one scratches, no?"

Tabatha cocked her head. "Why don't you come closer and find out?"

He tsked. "I think not. I’d like to keep my balls where they are. Also, I do find it interesting that you think I had any intention of letting you go."

I could feel the tension rolling off her. We'd planned for this possibility, but hearing it, feeling it, was a different thing. She'd been hopeful. She had wanted this to go the easy way, the way we'd all hoped. But we were going to have to fight our way to get to Kira. That's why you came into these things with your mates, your team, so you're never alone. Because motherfuckers like this were always going to betray and backstab you.

I shook my head. "Whatever the fuck you do with her, I don't care. But at least let me know who the fuck I'm talking to. Come closer so I can see you. I at least deserve that if you’re planning to kill me."
