Nor do I expect the spill of warm blood down my face and across her fingers.

Or to have to deal with whatever pathetic excuse for a fight this is, though I guess it's not her fault. And, at the risk of repeating myself, at least itisa fight.

She hasn't had to scrape by and survive at the Academy for the past three years. If she had, she would've gone for my eyes or my dick or, probably, never would have even tried.

Blood smears across her fingertips as I snatch her by the forearm and jerk her toward me. She lands against my chest with a snarl, and fuck, if front-to-front isn't even better than ass-to-dick. Her mouth can spew all the lies she wants, but her eyes can't, and fear sizzles in her honey-colored gaze, whether she wants me to see it or not.

"Never took you for a liar, pet," I remark, my tone clipped on the last word.

"Let go of me, psycho," she hisses back.

"Mmm," I taste the words and nearly groan, "say it again."

She opens her mouth to say something but closes it when I reel her even closer and say, "If you hit me again, pet, you better make it worth it."

She goes very, verystill. "What does that mean?"

I let my breath tickle the side of her face and feel her shiver when I say the words.

"It means," I say, "I hope you know where a shovel is if you choose to dig that grave."

There's a pause. I can literally hear her thinking.

"Let go of me," she says finally.

Itsk. "Not until you learn to behave."

"Learn some boundaries, asshole."

"Learn. To. Behave."

Her annoying roommate stirs again and mumbles something I don't give a fuck about as I release my pet, dig a cigarette out of a back pocket, and a lighter out of my other. One roll of the wheel, and I light up, spilling smoke between my teeth and directly into my pet's pretty, pale face.

She coughs, and the roommate groans before she manages grown-up words this time. "What the fuck is wrong with you, Saint?"

A commotion starts outside, and there's the opening and shutting of doors and muffled words. They're starting roll call, and I really can't risk missing it, despite how much fun this has been. I can't go to the hole, not when there's so much to do now, standing right in front of me.

Smoke sifts between my teeth, and I laugh when my pet takes a step back, disgusted. She may have a backbone, but it doesn't mean I can't break it.

I lean forward once more and press a kiss to her forehead, dangling the cigarette out of the side of my mouth as I do.

"Don't be afraid," I murmur with a chuckle. "I promise my bite is worse than my bark."

Then I clamp my teeth down on her shoulder, hard, and she yelps, before I walk to the window, pry it open, and disappear into the cold, howling wind.

WILLOW

The moment my stalker leaves, slipping into the fog that wraps around this place, I close the window. I latch the lock too, though I don't know why I bother. It's not like it kept himout.

The girl on the bed sits up, her short blonde pixie-cut sticking out in every direction.

"Put the bolts back," she grumbles before she starts rubbing her temples, hard and fast, her eyes squeezed shut. She does it for a minute, maybe more, before she cracks an eye open, looks at me, and stops long enough to point in my direction. Well, I think it's in my direction, at least. It could also be on the floor or somewhere on this side of the room.

"The bolts," she repeats, "the ones King Creepo left over there. If you don't, we're both getting sent to the hole."

"The hole?" I blink at her.
