When Mario finally comes by, he looks around in confusion, trying to get his bearings. Finally, his eyes land on me and they widen in shock.

“What do you want from me?” he demands, his voice shaking with fear and anger. Now that we are away from his men, his bravado has disappeared completely, and I wonder if I should tell him how little fuck those men gave about him even when he tried to play at being the big boss.

“Me? Nothing, really,” I reply calmly. “Gianna, on the other hand? Well, I think she’ll be happy to deal with you.”

“Gianna? What? She has the Russians do the dirty work for her now? Is that why she’s fucking you like a dirty whore?”

I’m across the room in a flash, plunging the switchblade into his upper thigh. I relish the feeling of my blade hitting bone. “Like you tried to use the Chechens to get her killed? What was it about throwing rocks when you’re sitting in a glass house?”

“I’m not going to tell you anything,” Mario screams, his eyes narrowing in defiance even as sweat breaks out on his brows. Whimpers escape him, exposing him for the pussy he is.

I sigh in mock resignation, all the while anticipating the violence I’m about to unleash on this asshole. Except, I remember just in time that this fucker is a present to Gianna, and I doubt she wants used wares.

I move my face right in front of his, tilting my head slightly. “Who says I’m going to ask any questions?”

Wrapping my hands around his throat, I slowly tighten, cutting off his air supply.

“Please,” he gasps, his breath ragged as he pushes out the words. “Let me go.”

Pathetic.

His face turns an impressive shade of dark red when I hear the crunching of gravel outside.

My queen has arrived, just in time to admire the color.

Gianna

I’m half-way to the restaurant when my car shows a call from Mateo.

Hitting the green button on my steering wheel, I ask, “Yes?”

“Gianna? Yeah, Mikhail Tsepov is here. He’s knocked Mario out. Right in front of the restaurant.”

Well, fuck.

“Tell me exactly what’s going on.”

Mateo’s answer is short and to the point. “I’ve got a gun pointed at him. He says he’ll deliver Mario to your place in the woods.”

That makes me smile. Mateo is a good man. I’ll have to buy him that new restaurant for his family soon. He sure as hell deserves it.

It doesn’t take a genius to know why Mikhail is there. He wants his own revenge.

Except, if that was the only thing he wanted, he wouldn’t be bringing Mario to my cottage.

Which means Mikhail wants me to be a part of this, and that knowledge makes me press my thighs together.

“Help him get Mario to the car and let him leave.” I instruct Mateo. Then, after a second thought, I say, “I’ll pick you up and we’ll head to my cottage together.”

Eric is gone with Mia, a text I received from him earlier confirming they met up and are on the move, but it’s time I act like the head of the family and trust my people to help me. And Mateo is proving himself worthy.

“Seriously?” Mateo asks, but quickly follows it up with, “Yeah, okay. Sure.”

When he hangs up, I chuckle. The anticipation of seeing Mikhail again is exhilarating.

A long drive later, I park my car outside the cottage. Taking a deep breath, I steel myself for what’s to come. I know why I’m here. Mikhail’s offering provides me with a chance to finally get revenge for my father’s death, a chance to make my uncle pay for his crimes. And this time everything is in place.

“Come on,” I tell Mateo. He has his gun in his lap already, even though I told him Mikhail isn’t about to shoot at us when we arrive.
