Massimo dropped her hand. ‘You mean that if it wasn’t for Frida Kahlo I’d still be chasing you and trying to get you to agree you love me too?’

Carrie chuckled. ‘I was already caving by then...she just helped.’

Massimo put his fingers to his mouth and kissed them, sending the kiss to the sky. ‘Thank you, Frida Kahlo.’

Carrie took Massimo’s hand then, and brought it to her belly. She saw his eyes widen.

She nodded, feeling emotional. ‘We’ll have to start thinking of a new name soon.’

The pure joy on his face rippled through her too. But she was apprehensive. They’d been in such a little bubble since they’d married, and with the twins...

‘What is it?’ Massimo asked, of course seeing everything.

‘Are we moving too fast?’ she asked.

Massimo grinned and lay down, pulling Carrie over him. Her hair fell around them like a wild golden curtain.

Massimo twined some strands around his fingers.

‘Not fast enough,’ he said. ‘Didn’t I mention I want at least six children?’

Carrie groaned. ‘Can I have the commitment-phobic man back, please?’

Massimo shook his head. ‘That man is gone for ever. You ruined him.’

Carrie could feel his body responding under hers. After all, they were wearing minimal clothing. She in a bikini and him in swim-shorts.

She squirmed against him deliciously.

He groaned softly and kissed her, saying, ‘You’ll pay for that.’

Then Massimo sobered for a moment. ‘I can’t wait for our family to expand. The joy that you and Frida and Ric have brought me... I think what we’re afraid of is that we can’t take any more joy...’

Carrie felt emotional. ‘Maybe that’s it.’

He shook his head and smiled. ‘There’s no one else I’d want to be on this adventure with. You are the centre of my being, and as long as you’re with me we can do anything.’

Carrie mock-growled at him. ‘You’ll never get rid of me.’

‘Good.’

At that moment there was movement, and a small sleepy voice from nearby. ‘Mama? Dada?’

Carrie and Massimo looked at one another, and then he said, ‘Later, Lady Linden.’

She put on a look of mock outrage. ‘I do believe that as you’re an earl, I’m actually a countess.’

‘I knew it—you only married me for my titles.’

Carrie laughed. ‘Well, that and...’

She moved against him, and after one more indulgent kiss she got up to tend to the twins, who were both awake now.

Later, once the twins were asleep for the night, in the soft darkness under a tropical moon, they celebrated their news again, in a very private and intimate way.

Afterwards, deliciously sated and drowsy, Carrie pressed a kiss to the place between Massimo’s neck and shoulder. ‘I love you, Mass. For ever.’

He kissed her mouth and then put a hand on her belly. ‘I love you. I loveus. It’s not too fast—it’s perfect.’

And itwasperfect.
