He’d known she was a virgin, but it hadn’t really impacted on him until that moment just how innocent she was. And, if he was honest, that had been the moment when she’d burrowed under his skin and lodged herself there like a briar. He hadn’t been able to get her huge eyes out of his head. How awed she’d looked. And then how mortified.
She’d never mentioned it. And neither had he. But a very subtle tension and awareness had come into the air between them after that night.
He looked out to the sea. He couldn’t see anything. For a second he felt fear. Panic. She wouldn’t possibly—? But then he saw the methodical stroke of arms in and out of the water as she swam parallel to the shore and relief made him feel like a fool.
Had he really considered that she was upset enough to do something drastic? When, as she’d told him herself, she was delighted to have been relieved of her virginity so she could go and enjoy her new solo life in Europe?
Caio’s emotions swirled into a volatile mix, and without thinking about what he was doing he strode into the sea.
The first inkling Ana had that she wasn’t alone was when she was unceremoniously hauled up by two big hands under her arms. She inadvertently swallowed sea water and spluttered, tried to clear her eyes, but of course it could only be one person.Caio.
When she saw him he looked fierce. His hair was wet, plastered to his head. Eyes burning. Ana realised she was standing up, the water waist-deep for her and up to Caio’s thighs, where his sweats were moulded to his body.
He shouted, ‘What the hell are you doing? You could have drowned out here on your own.’
Anger at him for making herfeelso much, and for finding her in a private moment when she’d been seeking some peace, made her shout back. ‘I’m perfectly safe! I’m a trained lifeguard and my brother and I used to go swimming in the sea regularly at night.’
‘There’s a perfectly good swimming pool here.’
‘I wanted something more,’ Ana lobbed back, feeling reckless. Feeling she had nothing to lose.
Dangerous.
‘What if you’d got cramp? Or drifted out to sea?’
‘I’m sure the security boats would have picked me up.’
‘Ana...Deus.’
Caio let her go abruptly and Ana swayed against a wave. The current was dragging her back to shore. She was naked. As if he’d just registered that fact, Caio’s gaze drifted down, over her breasts to her belly, where the water lapped against her skin. Back up.
‘You regularly swim naked?’
‘Not with my brother, no. But I figured I was safe here.’
‘Unless you’re giving the security men a show.’
Ana subjected him to an appraisal. ‘Then we both are.’
His sweatpants were all but clinging to his hips, moulded to every taut muscle and one in particular. Even now, in the cold sea, he wanted her. Desire surged through Ana’s lower body. She felt elemental. She wanted to punish Caio, except she couldn’t remember for what, exactly.
A wave caught her at that moment and sent her off balance. She fell against Caio and he almost fell back too, grabbing her arms to steady her. Her breasts brushed his chest. Electricity crackled between them.
Without saying a word, Caio took Ana’s hand and led her through the shallows and out of the sea to the beach. Still without words he let her go, and peeled off his sodden sweatpants.
They were both naked. Alone on this beach, on an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. And suddenly nothing mattered. Nothing but forgetting about everything else butthis.
Ana didn’t know who moved first, but they were in each other’s arms and their mouths were fused within seconds, tongues tasting and thrusting deep, hearts pounding.
Caio pulled Ana down so that he was on his back and she was straddling him. She needed him as she needed air to take her next breath.
Acting completely on instinct, she rose up and found him with her hand, positioned herself above him. Bracing herself with her hands on his wide chest, she slowly sank down onto his hard body. Caio’s hands went to her hips and he let her dictate the pace as she got used to the sensation, rising up and down, until another more primal rhythm took over.
They were both wet, salty, covered in sand. Locked in their own intense storm. It gathered around them, growing and growing, until Caio held Ana’s hips still so that he could pump up into her body.
She cried out and arched her back as ecstasy ripped through her and threw her high. The waves of pleasure were slowly receding when Caio pulled free from sensitive muscles and she felt the hot release of his own climax on her skin.
She collapsed onto his chest, spent. Skin hot...sticky. Her hair was wet. Caio’s hand drifted up and down her back. Cupped her bottom.
