Except she’d failed at the first hurdle. Because she knew something else now. Something she couldn’t keep denying to herself. And maybe making love with Caio had forced it to the surface, leaving her no way to hide from it any more.
She loved him. She’d fallen in love with him in fits and starts since the moment she’d laid eyes on him and had assumed the worst of him.She loved him. And after what had just happened... She knew no other man’s touch would ever come close.
‘Eat up while it’s hot.’
Caio pushed a plate towards Ana. In spite of everything her stomach rumbled, reminding her of just how mortal she was. Seizing on the distraction from too-disturbing revelations, Ana took a bite of the fluffy tasty omelette and made a sound of appreciation. ‘This isgood.’
Caio affected nonchalance. ‘I told you—eggs, I can manage.’
Ana’s appetite battled with the huge ball of emotion expanding in her chest. In spite of the painful things they’d just been talking about she’d rarely seen this lighter side of Caio, and it was...intoxicating.
She took another sip of wine and a bite of omelette. They ate in companionable silence until Caio pushed his own plate away. He was looking at her intently. Ana swallowed, her appetite for food suddenly supplanted by another growing hunger.
‘How are you feeling? Sore?’ he asked.
Ana blushed. ‘I’m fine. The bath was...nice. Thank you.’ It had been thoughtful. As had his lovemaking. He’d been constantly making sure she was okay. Giving her two spectacular orgasms before showing her that they had only been the precursor to the main event.
If he’d been a careless lover, intent on finding his own pleasure, it would have made it easier to tell herself she was being ridiculous, that she was confusing emotions with sex... But he wasn’t. And she wasn’t. She was in so much trouble. But there was no going back now. She couldn’t put the genie back in the bottle. And right now she didn’t want to.
‘That’s good,’ he said.
‘What’s good?’
Caio came around the island and swivelled her chair around so she was facing him. All she could see was his bare chest...remember how it had felt crushed to hers...
She looked up.
‘That you’re not too sore... Because we only have one night, and I have no intention of wasting it.’
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
‘WEONLYHAVEone night, and I have no intention of wasting it...’Ana looked up at Caio. Suddenly she felt fearful. She’d thought the same thing herself only moments before. She’d actively seduced Caio for this purpose. But now she had cold feet. She hadn’t counted on how making love with him would break her open, exposing a deep seam of need and emotion.
She knew the smart thing to do would be to call a halt now. She would meet someone else who didn’t make her feel so...raw.Wouldn’t she?she wondered a little desperately.
But she knew it was too late for that. This night would ruin her—wasruining her—for anyone else. And yet she also knew that she couldn’t resist what Caio was offering. For one night only she would gather up these precious pieces of experience and pleasure so she could hold on to them like a miser.
He reached for her robe and opened the belt. Ana’s breath quickened. She was totally naked underneath. He pulled the robe apart, baring her. Her skin prickled under his gaze, nipples tightening into stiff little buds.
She could see the pronounced bulge under his sweatpants and wanted to explore him, but before she could do anything so bold Caio lifted her wine glass and held it close to her breast, before tipping it slowly so that a trickle went over her breast and nipple.
She gasped at the cold sensation against her warm skin. Caio cupped her breast and bent down, his hot mouth closing over the peak as he sucked and licked her flesh clean of the sweet drink.
Ana was clutching his head, biting her lip to stop crying out, even though no one would hear them.
Caio pulled back and stood up, eyes dark and golden. ‘I want you...’
Emboldened by the evidence of how much he wanted her, and wanting to seize as much of this night and experience as she could, Ana slipped off the chair, her legs feeling distinctly wobbly. She got down on her knees before him and put her hands to his pants, where they hung low on his slim hips.
Immediately she saw the flare of desire in his eyes, even as he put out a hand and said, ‘Ana, wait...you don’t have to—’
‘I want to.’
She curled her fingers under the edge of the material and slowly pulled the pants down. They caught for a moment on Caio’s erection, and then it was free. Thrusting from the thicket of hair at its base. Boldly masculine and potent.
Ana was fascinated. Veins ran along the underside of the shaft and moisture beaded at the tip. She put a thumb to the bead of moisture and then licked it. The essence of Caio. Obeying some instinct she’d never possessed before, Ana wrapped a hand around Caio’s length. It felt hot under her palm and fingers, the skin silky, slipping over the steely hardness underneath.
She looked up at him, and the tortured look on his face, stark with need, made her feel invincible. She hardly heard his sharp intake of breath when she put her mouth around him, exploring intently, tasting every inch of him.
