My anger at his deception flared up again.
He stepped closer. “Say you believe me.”
I inched toward the door. My voice was flat, devoid of emotion. “I believe you.”
He moved forward.
I raised my hand to stop him. “It changes nothing between us. I meant what I said yesterday. I want nothing more than to forget I ever knew you. Ever loved you.”
His eyes narrowed. “I won’t apologize for wanting to protect you as best I could. Or for refusing to share you, Bianca. I may be going to hell for it, but no man was going to touch what was mine.”
All sense of self-preservation was burned to cinders in the flames of my fury.
How dare he act like the fucking protective, caring boyfriend?
He had no fucking right.
I silenced the small voice in my head that was screaming for me to just keep my mouth shut and leave.
Finally.
Finally.
Here was my moment to cause him a fraction of the pain and heartbreak he had caused me.
I tilted my head to one side as I raised an eyebrow. “Apparently your surveillance wasn’t as good as you thought, Enzo.”
His upper lip curled on a snarl. “What?”
I leaned forward. “One man slipped through your net. I’m not as innocent as you believe me to be.”
Enzo stalked toward me. “What did you just say?” he growled.
I stumbled backward, reaching behind me for the doorknob. I twisted it. It was only in that moment I remembered… he had locked it.
It was too late.
I was in too deep.
I met his gaze defiantly. “I’m no longer yours. I’mhis.”
CHAPTER10
ENZO
Now I know why those I loved thought it was plausible I would be capable of murderous violence.
My tentative hold, at best, on all rational thought…snapped.
I slammed my body against hers, pinning her to the door.
Stretching her arms over her head, I captured her fragile wrists in one hand and secured her jaw in my other. I breathed heavily through clenched teeth as I stared down into her frightened face.
I knew she was terrified.
She should be.
I was no longer in control.
