I glanced down at her.
The moment I did, I frowned.
She had this faraway expression on her face, almost as if she were in a trance.
Her eyes were unfocused and glassy.
I looked from her to the caffe cup and back.
Fuck.
She’d been drugged.
I looked up at her parents.
Claudia was staring intently at Bianca.
Her sharp eyes flicked up to meet my gaze.
I could see the truth in her sneer.
I snarled, “You bitch!”
Just as I lunged, the doors to the dining room were kicked open.
A small army ofArma dei Carabinieriofficers stormed in, guns raised.
All hell broke loose.
CHAPTER35
ENZO
Longo was at the forefront.
Two guards tried to grab my wrists. I easily shrugged them off.
Papà’s voice roared over the din. “Longo, you little asshole. You are not arresting my son on murder charges.”
Longo puffed out his chest. “You’re right, Don Cavalieri. I’m arrestingbothof your sons.” He gestured to the guards to grab Cesare.
Matteo grabbed the shoulder of one of the men trying to handcuff Cesare.
Longo shouted, “Leave off, Matteo Cavalieri, unless you want to face charges too.”
Something wasn’t right.
My conscious mind raced to catch up with what my subconscious mind was trying to tell me.
Something was off.
TheArma dei Carabinieriofficers.
The way they stood.
The way they were behaving.
Something wasn’t right.
