He was going to kill Bianca, like he killed her sister.

I motioned for Benito to stop filming.

I placed the gun to Longo’s head. “Where are they taking her?”

Longo lowered his head. “A small church in Chieti. There’s a priest there with a bad gambling habit who’ll sign a shady marriage certificate.”

I tucked the gun into my waistband.

It was time to stop my bride from marrying the wrong groom.

CHAPTER36

BIANCA

Iheard the chaos around me as if I were underwater.

Everything was muffled and hazy.

I tried to focus on Enzo and what he was saying but he was talking too fast. I slumped against the wall and closed my eyes. A rush of dizziness made my head spin the moment I did, but when I opened my eyes again it only seemed to make things worse.

My body lurched to the side.

With a huge effort, I forced my head to turn. I saw my mother pulling on someone’s arm.

Wait. It was my arm. Why was she pulling on my arm? Her lips were moving. I narrowed my gaze and leaned forward, focusing on her wide lips. They looked like two misshapen bright red slugs slipping over her chin.

She yanked me up and hooked an arm under mine.

One word got through the gibberish the two slippery slugs on her face were saying. “Walk.”

I dragged one foot in front of the other.

The cold wind outside brought a small amount of lucidity. Just enough for me to pull back. My tongue was heavy as I pushed it around in my mouth. “Wait. Enzo.”

Something in the back of my mind told me Enzo wouldn’t like me moving.

“Enzo said to follow me.”

She pushed me into the back seat of a car. It was warm and quiet. I liked that there weren't any of those loud noises.

I closed my eyes and gave in to the darkness.

“I don’t givea fuck what she wears!”

I kept my eyes closed.

“It’s still a wedding,” my mother whined.

“Are you fucking kidding me with this?” fired back Nevio.

I forced myself to keep my breathing still and even, as I kept not only my eyes closed but my eyeballs still. I didn’t want them to see them move behind my eyelids as a sign I was awake and aware.

Thank God I had only taken a few sips of my caffe. Liliana must have drugged it.

I risked a peek under my eyelashes.
