“Just make sure the bottles are ready for the six a.m. feeding, please,” Anne replied.

“Sure thing!” Brandy left, softly closing the door behind her.

Blane fed Everett while Anne fed Evie. Evie was a bit of a glutton and Anne had to keep taking the bottle away to get her to slow down. Evie didn’t like that. Not one little bit.

Everett liked to fall asleep once the edge was off his hunger, and Blane had to keep thumping the bottom of his feet to wake him up, then he’d start sucking again. It was so cute.

Fed and burped, Anne asked to hold Everett, too. Blane tucked him under the arm that wasn’t holding Evie. She lay back against the pillows, her eyes closed. The twins were already sucking their thumbs, cuddled in their pajamas and blankets. In a moment, he heard Anne softly snoring.

Blane took a mental picture. His family. Their family. The soft light bathing them in a warm glow. At this moment, it was his own dream come true. He was…happy. Ecstatically so.

He was determined that he and Anne had their happily ever after, no matter what the future held.

Blane gently returned the twins to their bassinet and went back to bed.
