"I can't put my finger on what's going on, but there is something going on between you and my sister. And I'm not talking about sex. I'm talking about feelings."

Jack quickly shook his head.

"I don't have feelings for Sophie. We had chemistry and we got it out."

Andrew laughed and resumed walking.

"Sure, buddy. Whatever you say."

Choosing to not focus on Andrew's unsaid words, Jack took in the sights again, heading in the direction of the wooden sign that pointed the way to the ceremony site, a building surrounded by small trees.

"Do you know that we had to dig these trees up and replant them here?" Andrew said. "Emily wanted trees."

Jack knew there was nothing his best friend wouldn't do for the woman he was about to marry. You could see the love in his eyes as he talked about her, as he did things for her. There was no hesitation or reluctance. And it had him looking back on his marriage to Angel.

They had the same thing too and it hurt terribly when she died that there wasn't enough time to share that magic with each other. Was that why he kept running away? Scared that he wouldn't find anything that could come close?

He just…

"My parents and Emily's parents will be hosting the rehearsal dinner, but I need to meet my mom briefly," Andrew said. "You can go inside and sit down before everyone else arrives."

"There's nothing else I can do for you?" Jack asked. He wanted to be of use until the last minute when he had to leave.

"You've done enough," Andrew patted him on the shoulder. "Thanks."

Jack walked into the building and his mouth fell open. It was magical.

The interior of the hall had by far, bested the outside that left him spellbound. It was for sure a perfect blend of fairytale and vintage. There were crystal chandeliers with intricate designs that hung low, the chairs were plush pink velvet and ornate pink-gold frame mirrors hung on the walls.

The tables had vintage chairs with grapevine designs, vintage china with pink flower patterns, and crystal glassware, each adorned with a flush floral centerpiece that overflowed with roses, peonies, and greenery.

There were boards with writings that pointed to tables where people were meant to sit. The bridesmaids and groomsmen were mixed and matched at random with three tables for them. They also had their names written on the signboards, so Jack was able to find his.

Some bridesmaids and groomsmen were already seated, so he greeted them, including Micheal who wanted a hug but became uncomfortable after five seconds and took his seat.

Sophie. He remembered. She had requested that they place her furthest from him. Where was her table?

Jack quickly found it on the sign boards. It was far indeed. His table was on the right and closest to the front of the hall and hers was left and furthest from it, but close to the side doors. Curious, he wandered over to see who she would be seated beside. There was no one at their table yet.

The name he saw was like a slap to his face.

Jerry.

Fucking Jerry. Jack now knew for a fact that Sophie didn't sleep with Jerry but he knew that Jerry wanted her. Jealousy bubbled to the top of his throat and he had to shove it down.

Jerry was bound to make a move on Sophie and since Jack knew him well enough, he knew that Jerry would not back down until he had gotten her. He had to switch their sitting places.

The table had name placements directly in front of each chair, so she picked the placements to swap them with another. They could sit at the same table, but not beside each other.

Just as he did so, Jerry appeared behind him.

"What are you doing?"

"Nothing."

Jack turned around, making sure that he had his poker face on.

"Nothing?"
