Jerry moved past him to inspect the table and Jack watched, almost certain that he wouldn't notice what had been done and he could return to his seat without an argument breaking out.

But Jerry must have been in before because he picked the name placements and held them up.

"Really? You are going to be a cock-blocker?"

"A cock blocker?"

"Yes. I told Andrew to place me next to Sophie since it's the last night before the wedding and I've been trying to spend some time with her, which no thanks to you, has been hard. He told me that he couldn't change the seating placements, but called me this morning to know if I'd want to sit next to Sophie. As you can guess, I happily agreed.

"But you decided to change it. What's your issue?"

Jack's issue was the question in his mind. Why would Andrew, knowing that Jerry was bound to make a move on his sister, put them next to each other? Was he that confident Sophie wouldn't give in, despite Jerry's unrelenting pursuits?

He decided to call the bluff.

"I don't know what you're talking about. Andrew would never sit you next to his sister and I guarantee you that I don't care enough to swap your seats. At all."

Jerry shrugged.

"Okay, you got me. I asked him, but he refused. However, I decided that I hadn't been the best groom helper and came early this morning. Mary said there was some confusion with the seating arrangements and if I could assist in reshuffling the names, but put you and Sophie as far away from each other as possible.

"And that's what I did. Why do you even care if I sit next to her? You've slept with her already, right? Got that out of your system."

Out of his system.

He said it like Sophie was some drug that you needed only a single pill and you were done. It made Jack feel terrible too. Shitty. Horrible.

"There is no getting out of anyone's system," he corrected Jerry. "Also, that's what you intend to do, isn't it? Sleep with her and bail? That's why you're trying so hard seeing as this is the last night."

"I know you think I'm a shitty person, but I genuinely like Sophie," Jerry said. "Yes, it started out as wanting to sleep with her. I mean, who wouldn't want to sleep with a woman that gorgeous? Her body? But we had a moment. The night everyone thought we had sex, we spent it talking.

"And I think I want to know more about her," he added.

"That's pre-nut thoughts," Jack refused, shaking his head. "You don't want to know more about her, Jerry. Trust me. I know you."

"No, you don't. It seems like you don't know Sophie either. One would think that when you meet the woman you dated in college again and you spend over two weeks together, you'd know more about her. You don't know that Sophie really likes you…and you're fucking it up by sleeping with Bethany.

"But," Jerry smirked, "what can I say? I'm thankful to you. Your loss is about to be my biggest gain. Oh, also, I called Sophie to know if she was okay sitting next to me. She said she couldn't be happier.

"I guess she hates you that much now. If I were you, I'd stay away. As far and as long as possible."

Jack had nothing to say. Jerry was right.

He messed up.

And it looked like the window of apology and redemption had closed.

CHAPTER13

HE LOOKS DASHING.

He looked dashing.

Sophie wasn't referring to her brother—who cried when he saw his bride walking down the aisle and almost ran down to meet her, thanks to Jerry, who held him back. She wasn't talking about the other groomsmen, even though they had outdone themselves with their fits.

Or the bridesmaids, all dressed in the shade of pink that brought out the smiles. It was one man in particular—Jack.

Jack Williams might not have smiled almost throughout the wedding, but he looked dashing in his tuxedo, and so did his son, Aidan. Sophie had picked out Aidan's outfit after her brother had come to her for help because he didn't have experience with small children and wasn't about to bother the father.
