Sophie scoffed.

“You sat at the table while your father discussed my dating history. I’ve never fallen in love with any of the men I’ve dated, and I’ve never dated anyone for more than three months. How am I going to find someone that makes me see the world in a better way?”

“Love doesn’t have to take time,” Andrew said. “It might take a week for you to fall in love with the man that is for you.”

His eyes were soft, and his tone was gentle, but Sophie found it hard to believe his words. She didn’t think true love was for her because all the men she had dated in the past were either scared of commitment, assholes, or she found something in them that wasn’t worth sticking around for.

“Thank you for the vote of confidence,” she replied. “But I’ll live through you. I’m fine with that. I don’t believe love is for me.”

“If you don’t find someone, I’m sure your mother will find a husband for you. She has good judgment, so you’ll…you’re not opposed to living with someone you tolerate, right?”

She burst out laughing, and Andrew joined her until they were clutching their stomachs in pain. “It hasn’t gotten to that stage, Andrew. I’d rather go to the convent rather than allow your mother to matchmake me, though.”

Andrew was about to reply, but a call came through, so he excused himself and went to answer the ring in the kitchen. Sophie took that time to just look around the living room…snippets of her childhood memories running through her mind.

“I’m sorry,” he said, returning to the living room. “That was my best man. He wanted to let me know he’s gotten here, so I told him to come here.”

“Okay.”

A knock sounded on the door.

“That should be him.”

He made his way to the door, stopping halfway to turn to Sophie. “By the way, Emily booked a place for the two of you. It’s a two-bedroom guest house.”

Sophie nodded slowly. “Oh…okay. There’s enough privacy, so no problem.”

There wasn’t any problem until Andrew opened the door and she saw who was standing at the other end. It was Jack Williams, her brother’s best friend in college and her old-time nemesis.

What the fuck was he doing here?

CHAPTER2

WHO COULD FORGET SOPHIE?

If he hadn’t caughthimself fast enough, his jaw would have dropped to the ground. It would have hit the floor with a loud noise, and she would have seen how much her presence affected him.

How did he not remember her?

Sophie Davis.

The younger sister of his best friend. Of course, she would come to her brother’s wedding. He had been stressed from handling Aidan’s issues, which was typical for his three-year-old toddler, and when Andrew said he would hire a nanny for Aidan if he would be his groomsman, he immediately agreed.

So he said yes, hopped on the next flight, and made his way to Oregon. Aidan was tired by the time they landed, and Jack was ready to settle down, so he wanted to find the house and put the boy to bed, then do the same.

He did not think all his carefully mapped-out plans would go down the drain.

“Jack?”

He shook his head and returned to reality to see his son sleeping while standing. Jack quickly scooped Aidan into his arms and forced a smile onto his face.

“Andrew. Nice to meet you, man.”

“I’m glad you’re here,” Andrew said, ushering him in. Jack avoided looking in Sophie’s direction, which was hard since the couch she sat on was facing the door, and their eyes had already met briefly when Andrew opened the door.

“Can I place him down?” He asked, referring to the sleeping child. He didn’t have to ask again because Mary came out of the bedroom, making her way toward them with a smile on her face.

Her husband was seconds behind, taking Aidan from Mary’s hands.
