I smile as I drop my head back against the brick wall and wait. Opening my messages again, I decide to stop being a pussy and tell them a few other things too, before they get here.

Me:

(Why can’t we all just be together I’d like to give it a try I fucked up and want you back and if that means sharing I want that too.)

Hitting send, I slide the phone back into my pocket and close my eyes, enjoying the early morning air while waiting for my girls to come get me.

LORETTA

Reading Michael’s texts, my stomach flutters. He’s obviously drunk since his texts came through with spelling errors galore, but both Jessica and I could decipher them just fine. I don’t even know what to think right now. I may want to strangle him, but I’ll make sure he gets home safely. So we’re in the car, driving to the bar to pick his ass up.

“Babe, you’re silent over there. What’s going through that pretty little head of yours?” Jessica questions, reaching over the center console and squeezing my thigh.

“How are you so cool after what we read in those texts? I’m freaking the hell out,” I tell her, flashing a nervous smile while squirming in my seat.

Jessica laughs. “One, he’s drunk as hell. Did you see the spelling in those messages? Two, I’ve known Michael was hung up on his ex for a long time now. Did I know that ex and you were one in the same? No. But it makes sense, since I am very much in love with you, too. Since Mike’s returned and I’ve seen the two of you together I’ve thought about your guy’s relationship and have come to realize I’m okay with sharing you. But if that is something we all want then everyone has to be on the same page and there have to be clear boundaries. Like who touches who? Is it a free for all? I don’t fucking know, but there needs to be a discussion. And a sober one, for sure. Right now the ball is in your court Loretta.”

Her words calm the crazy hurricane of emotions tearing me up inside. Knowing that she’s not pissed, but also I’m anxious as hell because I never thought I’d have two people want me like they do. I honestly thought I’d never see Michael again, and if I did, it would be in passing or he’d show up with a new wife or something. So this shit is mind-blowing to me.

Pulling up to the bar, we see Michael standing outside waiting for us. He smiles as soon as we stop in front of him and heads to the back door. “Good evening, girls. Thanks for coming for me. Cara offered to drive me home, but I didn’t sign up for the show they were trying to put on,” he slurs, sliding into the car and fumbling with the seatbelt.

“No problem, Mike. I’m glad we could help. Did you guys have a good time?” Jessica asks confidently, looking at Michael in the rearview mirror.

“Yup, sure did. Played some pool, listened to music, and drank. A perfect send-off for my cousin’s single life,” he cackles.

Jessica giggles and pulls away from the curb, heading out onto Main Street. “So, Mike, can you tell us where you’re living so I know where to take you?”

“Well, I guess that means I’m not going home with you two, huh?” He wags his brows at me when I whip around to stare at him.

Jessica throws her head back, cackling. “Nope. Sorry, you are out of luck. So where to, Casanova?”

“Cain’s shop. I’m staying in the extra break room space for now. Until I find something more permanent here.”
