Breathing hard, he finally lifted his head. “Where?”
“Your place?”
“I’m sharing a condo temporarily with some rookies until I find a place of my own. Unless you’re into that kind of thing.” He snickered, and I playfully smacked his arm.
“No, no thanks. We can’t very well go to my place since I’m staying in my brother’s spare bedroom.”
“Not a good idea.” His gaze never left my breasts, and he didn’t seem too concerned about finding a place to continue our liaison. Instead, he continued where he’d left off. Two could play at this game. I unbuttoned and unzipped his jeans and slid a hand inside. He gasped when I wrapped a hand around his hard, warm length. He was thick and long, and I wanted him. All of him. Every single inch of him.
“Fuck. You’re making me lose my mind.”
“That’s the idea,” I said in my best sultry voice. I might be a tough hockey player, but I knew how to be a soft, alluring woman when necessary.
He lifted his head and met my gaze. “Let’s find a room.”
“Now you’re talking.”
Banks drove away from the curb while I pulled down my shirt, leaving my bra unhooked. I wouldn’t need it much longer.
He drove aimlessly for a minute or two before he pulled into the parking lot of an older hotel. Banks leaped out, crossed to my side, and grabbed my hand. “Let’s go.”
“Are you sure this place is safe?”
“I’m sure.”
“You’re lying. You have no idea.”
“As long as it’s clean, we’ll be fine.”
I didn’t need much convincing. “You might want to zip your pants.”
He quickly zipped up and led me inside. Leaning on the orange laminate countertop, he called to the desk clerk, a young man who had his back to us while playing on his phone.
“Hey, we need a room.”
The kid took his time before turning around. He scowled at being interrupted. “We’re full.”
“You’re full?”
“A couple conventions in town and some big festival and concert at city center. You won’t find a room in this city right now.”
“Are you sure?”
The kid gave us a look like we were stupid and turned back to his phone.
“Thanks for nothing.”
All we got was a brief nod in response.
We left the hotel and stood on the street. Banks looked up and down as if expecting the answer to walk right up to us. We tried four more hotels in the area and each one gave us the same answer. No room at the inn.
My earlier courage, driven by lust, began dissolving as my brain returned to a semblance of normality. I couldn’t do this, wouldn’t do this. I wasn’t sure I was over Rick yet, and I didn’t want to muddy the waters by having an affair with Banks. “It’s late. We both have work tomorrow.”
Banks sighed deeply and nodded.
“Maybe this has happened for a reason. I guess you should take me home,” I said.
“I guess I should. Wild will be timing how long we’re together alone and would probably castrate me before he kills me if we’re too late.”
