“He’s got an important call to London in ten minutes, but he should be free now. Sara, you know you can go inside any time.”
“I know. If I go in there, we’ll both get very distracted. It's not always a good thing working so close to your fiancée.”
I laugh. “Yeah, I know what you mean. Well, not fiancée.” I feel myself getting embarrassed with each word I say.
Sara and Alexandria walk into Adrien’s office, and Alexandria gives me a satisfied smirk. I don’t trust her.
Icome out of Adrien’s office, and a huge smile spreads across my face as I see Reid sitting on the same couch opposite my desk that he did over a week ago. This time, though, he’s got a huge bouquet in his hands.
“Reid, you shouldn’t have,” Adrien laughs, coming up behind me.
“These are for your lovely assistant.”
“Thank you,” I say, taking them off him.
“You here to take her to lunch?” Adrien leans against the door frame.
“I was hoping to.”
“I can’t,” I say, putting his flowers on the side of my desk.
“Why not?” Both guys say at the same time.
“I need to get things ready for this afternoon’s meeting.”
“Jenna…”
“Adrien, you have a meeting in five minutes,” I interrupt him.
“Right. See you, Reid.” Adrien leaves us.
“What’s the matter, babe?”
“Nothing, I just, I’ll talk to you later.”
“Okay, well, I was going to take you to lunch so I could ask you if you wanted to come to a premier with me on Wednesday.”
“Don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m not someone who’s going to be comfortable in the spotlight.”
Reid bursts out laughing.
“What?” I’m genuinely confused about what's got him laughing so hard.
“You really are not like every other girl, are you?”
“I guess not,” I smile.
“How about we go to it together, but you can bypass the red carpet?”
“That would make me happy.”
“Excellent. I’ll arrange for you and Dom to go through, and I’ll meet up with you after I do my thing.”
I hear heels click along the marble floor, and my back instantly stiffens.
“Jenna, aren’t you going to introduce me to your friend?”
‘No,’ I want to say. “Reid, this is Alexandria, Sara’s new assistant.”
