Ifeel like a new woman today. Waking up with Dominic’s hand over my stomach was just the icing on the cake. Dominic highly approved of the power suit I wore into the office today. I’m going to show this new assistant that she might be Sara’s assistant, but I’m Adrien’s, and I’ve been with him since he started this company, and he knows I'm with him to the bitter end. We’re a team in the most platonic of ways.
Over the weekend, Adrien’s had people changing the office space up here ever so slightly. Her workstation is not as on top of mine as I’d thought. Maybe Adrien knew to give us some space. This still gives me the illusion I’m up here on my own. Thank god for Sara’s office having two doors to get into her office.
I’m busy getting all the packs laid out in the conference room in the middle of the office space when I see Adrien and Sara get off the elevator. He’s a changed man since they got together. If this had been earlier last year, he would have been in the office already. I swear he used to start during New York office hours and end the day in the L.A. time zone to get the most out of his day.
Sara sees me and approaches with Adrien’s hand on her lower back. “Hi, Jenna. Alexandra should be here at nine am.”
“Great, does security downstairs know to send her up, or do you want me to meet her and bring her up?”
“It’s okay. You’re busy. I’ll get someone to bring her up.”
I keep my smile plastered on my face. “Great.”
“Okay, I need to go and check Alex has everything for our meeting later.” She kisses Adrien’s cheek as she goes.
“You can drop the fake smile,” Adrien laughs, sitting in the chair nearest me.
“I have a bad feeling, is all,” I say because I do. I can’t shift it.
“I just think you don’t like change. I want us to have a meeting later in the week, so if you can find an opening for one lunchtime, move something that’s maybe not too important.”
“Adrien…”
“Jenna, the company has grown a lot in the last year. I need to keep you around. You’ll see Sara having her own assistant will be a good thing. But I need to change your role too.” Adrien stands up and squeezes my shoulder before heading off to his office.
The new assistant has been here for two hours, and I dislike her already. Twice she’s tried to come up with some excuse to go into Adrien’s office. I know I’m going to have to camp outside here all day. My stomach flutters when I hear footsteps getting nearer from the elevator. I sit back in my chair when I see Dominic, and I wince a little because my ass is still slightly uncomfortable from the night before.
“Hey,” I smile. “What are you doing up here?”
“If Josh asks, you need me to come and collect something that got dropped off at the wrong office.”
“Hmm. So, you want me to lie?”
“I wanted to come and see you and check you’re okay. I knew you could lie in a call or text, and here I could read the look on your face.”
“Sneaky.”
“No, just checking on my girl.” He looks around the office before kissing me on the lips.
“Okay, maybe I feel a little better now.”
“How’s it going?”
“Fine. We’ll talk later.” He says, eyeing me suspiciously. He kisses my forehead just as Sara and Alexandria walk out of Sara’s office.
“Hi, Dominic,” Sara says, giving him a knowing smile.
“Sara,” he nods. “Jenna, I’ll see you later.”
“Count on it,” I laugh.
I keep my eyes on his ass as he walks away. Not caring that Sara and Alexandria are in front of me. I’m allowed to look at his ass.
“He’s cute,” Alexandria says.
My eyes fly to her face as she sits on the couch in the reception area.
“Okay, ladies. Jenna, is he busy?” she points to Adrien’s office.
