I hold her keys up to her, hanging them off my index finger, and she snatches them off me. “Thanks.”

I watch her throw her purse onto the passenger seat as she opens the car door.

I pull myself up from the floor, and I’m just about to ask her out when her phone rings in her bag. We both know from the ringtone that it’s Adrien. “I need to get that.”

“No problem. Josh has that presentation in the morning. Do you want to meet up for lunch? I’ll either be celebrating, or I’ll be wishing the world was ending.”

She straightens herself, phone in hand, as it continues to ring. She holds her finger up. “Adrien, what’s the problem?”

I watch as she listens to her boss, and it feels stupid just standing here. I go to move, but she grabs my arm. It isn’t the first time she’s touched me like that, but it is the first time my body’s reacted in shock. And a lot aroused. She continues to talk to her boss, but I don’t think she’s realized yet that her hand is still where she left it. I’m in no rush to pull away from her touch, though.

“I’ll make sure everything is ready first thing. Yeah, honestly, don’t worry about it, Adrien. It’s why you pay me that sweet bonus at the end of the month.” She smiles at me this time. “See you tomorrow.” She ends the call and then looks and sees she’s still holding onto my arm. “What were we saying? Oh yeah. Lunch. I’d like that, but won’t Josh be taking the team out?”

“The team, yes,” I say. “I’m Josh’s assistant, and I’m not included in the team lunches for things like this. I’m fine with that. The rest of the guys go. I just stop everything else from crashing around him.”

“That’s shitty of him,” Jenna says with a perplexed look. “Okay then, it’s a date.”

I swallow. If only she knew how I felt.

Josh and two guys from the design team have been in Josh’s office for the last thirty minutes, and it's going well from the sound of things. Nothing urgent has come up on the call logs, so I’ve had no reason to pop my head into the office. I look up, surprised to see Jenna walking toward my desk with a stack of papers. A couple of the guys in the office stop what they’re doing to watch her. Jenna is oblivious, as always. She’s wearing fitted pants and a sparkly top. It’s a top more fitting for a night out but mixed with business pants… she looks great, as always.

“What’s wrong?” She asks, and I hear the panic in her voice as she sits down on the chair opposite my desk.

Shit!

“Sorry, I was thinking… Never mind. Hi.”

She laughs, then sits back and makes herself comfortable. “Adrien has finished with these. We need to get our bosses to be more digital than they are, and by ‘our’ bosses, I mean yours.”

I laugh because she’s not wrong.

I notice she has her purse and see it’s nearly lunch. “Are you hiding here until we leave?”

“Yeah. Adrien and Sara have left for a meeting somewhere. They were pretty cagy about where they were going, which tells me it was a sex meeting. Which also means I can take an extended lunch.”

“How did you figure that?” I ask, tidying up the shit around my desk.

“It’s an unspoken agreement we’ve always had. I don’t bust his balls for being out of the office for ages, and he says nothing about being late back in the office.”

I laugh when Josh chooses that exact moment to come out of his office, and a stupid smile spreads across his face.

“The deal is done.” He tells me. I turn to Jenna and see she’s smiling just as much as Josh is.

“Jenna,” Josh says.

“Adrien has sent back the stuff you dropped off. Dom and I are off to lunch.”

“Is that so?” he asks, turning to me now.

“Well, take an extended lunch, Dom. You deserve it for working so late last night.”

“Thanks,” I smile.

“Let me borrow him for one minute, Jenna, and then he’s all yours.”

“Okay,” she laughs, sitting back down in her chair.

Josh kicks everyone out of his office, shutting the door behind us.
