She licks her lips, looking up at me. She can’t know that with one look, she can make every one of my walls crumble around me.
“Take Dominic’s cock out.” I can hear the change in my voice. I don't mean to be cold towards her, but I need a second to re-group.
She looks at me for the longest time, and knowing Jenna, she’s going to have a million questions. She moves to Dominic, who gives her a megawatt smile. He strokes her hair, almost petting her. He loves her. That much is clear from the look in his eyes.
What the hell am I doing here? Jenna deserves a guy who will worship her and give her all the fun.
She takes Dominic in her mouth.
This is my window. I zip my pants up and walk away, my mind foggy as I make a beeline for the elevator. I press it twice, needing the thing to hurry the fuck up. A hand grips my shoulder, and I look to see Dominic with a panicked look on his face.
“Reid,” he’s calm. Way calmer than I would have been if he’d pulled what I just did. “What’s the matter?”
I look over his shoulder and see Jenna with Kate. She doesn’t look upset. She doesn’t even look angry. Mike is looking at the girls and then at me when the elevator doors open. I can’t move; it feels like I’m being weighed down in place.
“What do you want to do, man?”
If that isn’t the million-dollar question. The doors to the elevator I was so keen to get on a moment ago close. Leaving Dominic and me standing near the hostess stand.
Dominic pulls me to the side, so we’re less on show for anyone watching my mini meltdown.
I need to get this shit out of my head, but not here. They both deserve to know the level of spiraling I sometimes get into.
“Do you need mine and Kate’s office?” Mike asks, and I didn’t even realize he’d moved closer to us.
“No, we’re going to take him back to his place,” Dom says, commanding the space. “I’ll grab Jenna.” He squeezes my shoulder.
“You okay?” Mike says. He leans against the wall, not looking comfortable.
“I’m okay.”
“You know a problem shared is a problem halved, right?”
Where is Mike, and who is this person standing before me? Mike is moody, broody, and grumpy. That’s his whole thing.
“Earlier this year, I started dealing with stuff I should have dealt with a long time ago. Talking to Kate and going to therapy helps.”
“I’ll get in touch over the weekend,” Mike says, nodding at me before he walks away.
I watch Dominic, Jenna, and Kate talk amongst themselves before they head back to me.
“Kate said she’ll keep my normal clothes here until next time,” Jenna says, trying to put a brave face on. She reaches for my hand but pulls it away just as quickly.
I reach for her hand. This is my issue, not hers. The last thing I want is for her to feel that she can’t reach out to me or touch me when she wants to. I’m not that broken. At least, I hope not.
Iwrap my arms around Jenna as she relaxes into my hold on her. The drive to my house by the beach in Malibu was quiet. Jenna and Dominic took their cues from me. He approaches the house, and I wrap my jacket around Jenna. The air is cooler by the beach, and she’s still basically in underwear from our hasty exit from the club. Dominic gets out of the car first and helps Jenna out. I take a moment to gather myself. Running my fingers through my hair and face, I need to get my shit together.
I leave the car and see Jenna and Dominic leaning against the front of the house in comfortable silence.
“What do you say we all have an early night?” Jenna says as we all make our way into the house.
“No, I want to get this off my chest.”
“I’ll make us some coffee,” Jenna says, looking around the space.
“Over there,” I smile, pointing to the archway that leads to the kitchen.
She surprises me by kissing me on the cheek and handing me back my jacket before walking off like she owns the place.
