I look up, hearing footsteps on the marble floor as they approach my desk. I get a flutter in my stomach, hoping that it’s Dominic. As the person comes into view, I’m slightly disappointed, but not for long. Alex approaches my desk with a coffee and some folders in hand.
“I hope they’re not for me,” I say, joking with him.
“That’s why I brought you coffee and cake.” Then I see the small box on top of the stack of folders.
“Wow, it must be bad if you’re bringing treats too.”
My phone pings on my desk, and I don’t go to reach for it.
“I hear you and Dominic have started to see each other,” he smiles.
I feel myself blush while I fidget with something on my desk. My phone pings again.
“Who told you that?” I ask. I don’t love being the gossip of this place.
He smiles as he taps his nose. “That would be telling.”
“Yeah, well…”
“I think it’s a good thing. Dominic is a nice guy.”
My phone rings on my desk, and I instantly know it’s Reid. I’ve given both the guys their own ringtone, and Reid’s is the theme song from his old TV show. I go even redder; turning my phone over, I silence the call, but not before Alex sees Reid’s name and picture on the screen.
Fuck!
Alex is a gossip. I love the guy, but he loves to push my buttons.
“Is that Reid Taylor?” he smiles like he’s in on some secret.
He calls again. “I can’t talk right now. I’ll call you back in a minute.” I say without giving him a chance to get a word in.
Alex laughs and sits on the couch in the waiting area between Adrien and Sara’s offices. “Now I want to know why Reid Taylor called you and why you hung up on him. That’s not going to go down well.”
I bite my lip nervously. I know that he’s right. But Reid has to understand that between nine and five, I belong to Adrien.
My phone pings again, and I turn my phone over again so I’m not tempted to read the messages.
My office phone rings. “AB Enterprises, Jenna Michaels speaking.”
“Do not hang up on me again, babe.” His voice sounds different than it usually does.
“Mr. Taylor, how can I help you today? Adrien is on a conference call at the moment.”
Alex laughs as he gets his phone out of his pocket and starts typing away.
“You know it’s not Adrien I want to speak to.”
“I’m working,” I whisper, one eye on Alex and the stupid grin on his face.
“Dom and I are having lunch. We wanted to know if you wanted to join us?”
“I can’t. I need to work through lunch today.”
“Oh babe, there will be consequences for you hanging up on me a moment ago.”
“What consequences?” I say, not even thinking about Alex still being in earshot. I avoid looking his way. Turning my chair around so I’m looking at the wall behind me, I take a deep breath.
“Oh, that would be telling. Are you free this weekend?”
