It’s then that I notice the house is quiet, which is unusual for this clan.
All eyes are on us as I turn to face them. Now it’s not only Blake who is nervous, but me too.
“Who’s this guy?” Logan asks from his spot on the couch. The cage surrounding his leg is covered up. Probably best that way. He had another surgery a few weeks ago to remove more damaged tissue. To say it looks gnarly is an understatement.
“Logan. Manners,” Gramps barks at him from his spot in the chair.
“Sorry. Gemma, please introduce us to your guest.” I can sense the sarcasm in Logan’s tone.
I ignore him. “This is Blake. He’s the one writing the family drama.”
Layla walks over and introduces herself first. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Layla, Gem’s big sister.”
“Nice to meet you.” Blake shakes her hand.
Thank youI mouth to her when she turns to me. She knows how much I like him.
“TV. What’s that like?” I leave the two of them to talk, knowing he’ll be in good hands with Layla. At least one person has their sanity tonight.
I stalk over to Peter. “Would you be nice?” I hiss at Peter.
“What have I done?” he whispers back to me.
“You’re glaring. I like him, sobe nice.”
“Logan’s the one being a dick.”
“I heard that,” he shoots back.
“What’s got everyone in such a mood today?” I huff out.
“They want to be the big bad brothers and intimidate Blake,” Nash says, coming out of the kitchen, handing me a glass of wine.
Thank God for Nash and someone who isn’t related to us having some common sense.
“You guys are di…jerks,” I correct, seeing that Willow’s looking right at me.
“Uncle Peter, you should be nice to Gemma’s boyfriend. He’s really nice and not scared of storms.”
God, I love my niece, but the look that Peter throws my way could cut glass.
“Oh, he’s your boyfriend now?”
“When I like a boy at school, that’s what we call them,” Willow states matter-of-factly.
“Why don’t you go play in the backyard, sweetheart?”
Willow shakes her head. “Uncle Logan said we could play video games together.”
Of course.
“Will you guys please be nice?” I plead again, not for the first time tonight.
Layla and Blake walk over to us. At least someone is cordial.
“We’ll be the perfectly respectable people you know we can be,” Peter states.
“Why does that not sound like the case?” Nash wraps an arm around Peter, kissing his cheek.
