“I’d like that.”
Blake turns a happy smile to me. I know Gramps’s words mean a lot to him, especially with how nervous he was.
Dinner is cleared and blackberry crisp is brought out.
With a big topping of light pink whipped cream.
“You think we got the preview last night?” This time, when Blake whispers, it’s so only I can hear. Not that anyone can hear us as dessert is handed out.
“You two okay over there?” Layla asks, a knowing smirk on her face.
“We’re just fine.” I fight the laugh that threatens to burst from me. I turn my attention back to Blake. “We definitely got the preview last night.”
“I don’t think I can look at anyone if we eat that.”
“I don’t think I can eat it at all.” My cheeks flush.
Layla hands two plates to us, piled high with blackberry crisp, a wistful look on her face. I know it’s hard for her seeing happy couples.
Before I know it, dessert is over and people are starting to head home. Blake stands, grabbing my hand.
“I hope we didn’t scare you off, Blake.” Gramps extends his hand toward Blake.
It does funny things to my insides seeing the two of them together. Gramps is one of the most important people in my life.
We don’t see our parents often, having retired to the warmer beaches of Florida. Sure, they were here when Logan was going through the worst of his recovery, but once I started working at the ranch, Gramps and I got closer.
He’s the one person’s approval I want more than anything.
“It was a great night. Thank you for having me.”
“You’re welcome back anytime. I mean that.” Gramps points a finger at Blake.
Gramps turns to me, wrapping me in a tight hug. “He’s a good one, Gem.”
“Thanks.” It’s the only word I can get out.
This thing with Blake was supposed to be easy. Fun. The reckless thing to do.
I give him the true western experience, and he helps me fulfill my own…well, needs.
I didn’t think twice about bringing him to family dinner. Now, things seem a lot deeper than I want to let on.
ChapterTwenty-One
GEMMA
“Are you ready to explore Dixon today?” I shout back to Blake in my bedroom. Ever since we started this thing, we’ve been spending more and more nights together.
Him teaching me everything he knows. Me experiencing pleasure I never thought possible.
“Ready.”
Blake walks out of my room with a bright smile on his face. God, is he ever the sexiest man alive. I’d put his face all over magazines, but I want to keep that smile to myself.
“How are we getting into town?”
“Old Betty.”
