My breath catches in my throat at his words. His dark eyes are laced with a hidden meaning.

I clear my throat, trying to find the words. “I’ll be fine.”

Blake brushes a piece of hair off my shoulder, his touch lingering. It sends goose bumps exploding across my skin.

His lips dip closer, ghosting the shell of my ear. “You know where to find me if you need anything.”

I watch as he heads out the back door. The wind whips his hair around. It takes everything I have not to run after him.

I don’t want to be that desperate girl, though, giving it up to the first guy who looks at me.

Except if it’s anything like what we did the other night, it’s going to be mind-blowing. So good, it’ll rock my world and no one will ever compare to it.

Maybe that’s why I’m holding out. But the longer Blake is here, the less willpower I have.

Who knew I’d be such a sucker for a city boy with green eyes?

ChapterThirteen

GEMMA

“Holy shit.”

The clap of thunder has me burrowing farther under the blankets on my couch. It’s pitch black outside. Lightning cracks through the sky, illuminating everything.

The power went out an hour ago, but thankfully the generator kicked in immediately. I’d be in the fetal position if I had no power. Thankfully I have a bottle of wine I could open to try and settle my nerves.

I really hate thunderstorms.

Hail has been on and off all night. The rain pelts against the windows as a loud knock cuts through the sound of the wind.

“Oh my God!” It feels like my heart leapt out of my chest. I have no idea who would be out in this weather.

“Gemma! Open up!” The pounding starts again, but this time, my heart stays in my chest.

Wrapping the blanket around me, I run to the door. Blake fills the doorframe.

“What in the hell are you doing here?”

“The power went out.” He shakes his hood out, spraying water everywhere.

“What? You have a generator.”

He wipes the rain from his eyes. Even with a coat, he’s sopping wet.

“Can we have this conversation inside?”

“Oh, sorry.”

I grab his arm and tug him inside as another boom of thunder rattles the house.

I don’t think. I lunge at him. Wrapping my arms around him, I hold on tight.

“Shit, you’re shaking like a leaf.” Blake squeezes his arms around me.

I nod against his chest. “I hate storms. I don’t know why you chanced it and left your cabin.”

Blake steps back, shrugging out of his jacket. “I didn’t want to be without power for however long the storm lasts.”
