“I guess it was yours to take all along.”
ChapterTwenty-Eight
GEMMA - TWO MONTHS LATER
“It’s weird to be nervous, right?”
“I mean, technically you’re not in it, so why would you be nervous?” Ivy stands next to me, surveying the scene in front of us.
Cameras are spread out throughout the pasture. Buttercup and Old Man River are standing near the fence with the actors.
It’s Blake’s first day of shootingTeton Grand. When he mentioned them shooting at the ranch, I thought it would be some background shots.
Instead, they’re using the fields and the cabins for a large portion of shooting.
Bright blue skies. Snow-capped mountains. Wildflowers as far as the eye can see.
Every bit of it is stunning. And I know it’s going to look gorgeous on camera.
“I want the ranch to look good. This could mean really good things for us.”
It’s something I planned on when negotiating the rate for shooting here. One of my first big duties as manager.
I was ecstatic, even if I was nervous as hell. Sitting across from Blake and negotiating a rate wasn’t what I expected. The pride emanating from him that day made me realize we made the right decision.
“Gemma. Look around us. They couldn’t have picked a better spot if they tried.”
“Quiet on set!” Eric barks out. Blake looks every bit the professional writer that he is, sitting in his chair as he watches filming start.
He looks every bit the western hunk now. A full face of scruff. Plaid shirt opened over a white tee that stretches across his chest. Cowboy boots hiding under his jeans.
I absolutely want to jump his bones. Something that we do every chance we get now that Blake is living with me.
The scene unfolds before us. The Grand family has one older brother and four younger sisters. I’m not sure which sister this is that’s filming, but it’s her high school boyfriend that’s breaking up with her. Something about wanting bigger and better things.
The actress is pouring everything into this scene. She’s a new up-and-comer, and I can’t wait to see what she does with this show.
“Cut! That was brilliant!” Eric shouts.
He’s also someone I’ve gotten to know over the last few months. He’s been a permanent fixture at the ranch since we started scouting locations.
It’s nice that Blake has people here outside of me. His mom is not one of them. Eric managed to score her a part in a period drama that is currently filming in England. The one time I met her, she intimidated the crap out of me.
I should have known I didn’t have to worry about Blake not having people here. Blake makes friends everywhere he goes, as evidenced by the fact that Blake and Eric go out with Dick every Thursday night. I love that he’s making this place his home.
“How’s it look from over there?” Blake drops his headphones and walks over to us. Sweeping me into his arms, he lays one on me.
I don’t think I’ll ever get used to this.
“It looks fucking awesome,” Ivy tells him. “Seriously. I can’t wait to see the show.”
“Thanks, Ivy. How’s school going?”
A sad look washes over her face. “It’s going.”
Ever since she moved to Montana, it’s been hard on her. She came home for the weekend for the first day of shooting, but she won’t tell me what’s wrong.
And I hate it.
