The vibe of Dixon.

“I’m a fucking idiot.” I slap my hand across my forehead.

“What’s going on?” Clint comes back over to me.

“Why aren’t we shooting on location?”

“What?” He looks confused.

“I mean, why are we shooting a western drama in Malibu?”

“Because we live and work here…”

“I’m serious.” I shove my sunglasses on top of my head. “Why aren’t we shooting this where there are mountains and fields and actual horses?”

“Money?”

“You said our budget was fine. Was that wrong?”

“Well, no. I’m just trying to think of a reason it wouldn’t work, but I’m coming up empty.”

A smile grows on my face. “Why the hell didn’t I think of this before?”

“Because everything you’ve ever done has been in LA?” Clint asks, tongue in cheek.

“But we could shoot on location?”

I don’t want to get my hopes up. I know permits can be difficult to come by in some areas, and don’t want to walk too far down this road if it won’t happen.

“I can float it by the execs.”

“You do that. And while you’re at it, show them those pictures you took of these ‘mountains.’” I throw up air quotes.

Clint rolls his eyes at me. “I get it. You’re a badass western kid now who knows what a real mountain looks like.”

“I can even ride a horse.” I wink at him.

“I’m assuming you have a location in mind?”

I nod. “Do I ever.”

“Will you stop moping around if we do this?”

“Hey. I haven’t been moping.”

“You’re the definition of moping.”

Clutching Clint’s shoulders, I look him dead in the eye. “I promise, if we shoot there, I will be the happiest person on the planet and keep you in scripts for years.”

“You promise?”

“What’s a better motivation than love?”

ChapterTwenty-Seven

GEMMA

“Everyone have their schedules for the day?” I look around the small conference room at my newly hired team.
