I smiled and squeezed his arm to make sure he really heard me.
He nodded and got up from the bed, picking up his clothes from the chair and leaving the room.
My focus went back to Griff, who’d somehow slept through my exchange with Jake. He looked so peaceful, with his full lips slightly parted, letting out tiny puffs of breath, his long dark lashes, and perfect nose.
I always thought it wasn’t possible for me to love Griff more than I already did, but somehow, every morning I woke up to him, I felt more. Like our love was growing with us.
Beyond the bedroom door, I heard Jake using the bathroom to get ready for work, and I could be mistaken, but I thought I heard the coffee machine too.
I must have fallen asleep again because the next time I opened my eyes was to gaze into Griff’s deep-brown ones.
He smiled and pulled me in for a kiss before I had a chance to check how he was feeling. Sneaky bastard.
I chuckled and tickled his sides before he got any ideas about turning the kiss into something else. As much as I was dying to get my hands on him, I needed to know first how he really was. And by that, I meant his top head, not the one lower down that was currently poking my thigh.
“You’re no fun,” he said, pouting after I put a safe distance between us.
I raised my brow. “That’s not what you said two days ago when I rim—”
He put his hand on my mouth and said, “Don’t say it unless you’re going to do it.”
I winked and licked his palm, and then laughed as he groaned and lay on his back.
“How do you feel?” I asked.
Griff turned his face to me and smiled. “Surprisingly good. My head hurts a little.”
“Any dizziness?”
“No.”
I ran my hand over his chest, letting it come to rest on his waist.
“Jake is coming back later,” I said.
“Did he sneak out?”
“No, he was okay. We didn’t talk because I didn’t want to wake you, but I asked him to come back later.”
Griff took my hand and raised it to his mouth, doing the exact same thing I did to Jake earlier.
“I think I’m ready to try,” I said. “I’m terrified it’ll end badly, that we’ll both end up hurting, but…”
“It’ll hurt more if we don’t try.”
“Yeah.”
“Shower?”
“Only if you promise to behave,” I warned.
Griff snorted, but he behaved. Well, mostly.
“So, what do you want to do today?” I asked, pouring coffee into Griff’s cup. The coffee that Jake had started for us earlier, even though he hadn’t stayed long enough to have any.
“Can we just cozy up on the couch watching telenovelas?”
“Of course.” I’d watch anything if it meant Griff had a chance to relax and get better, even telenovelas.
