"I promise," I said.
"Just like that?"
"Just like that."
Whatever was in his past was in his past. Maybe he'd done stupid or dangerous stuff, but I trusted him.
When we got back to the bike, he helped me put my helmet on. I wasn't stupid enough to admit I'd figured out how to do it on my own. Having Slade's hands on me beat not having them on me any day.
He put his own helmet on and then grabbed my hand and placed the keys to the bike in my palm.
A rush of excitement and nerves went up my spine. "Are you serious?"
"A little bit too much sometimes, or so I'm told," he replied.
I went to punch his shoulder, but he anticipated my move and wrapped his arm around my waist. The rush that went up my spine turned into lust when he nuzzled my neck and sucked my exposed skin.
"I bet you're gonna look so hot riding that bike," he said into my ear, just before he sucked my lobe.
"I won't be able to drive if my brain is a puddle of mush by our feet. Keep doing that, and I'll forget how to walk, let alone drive this thing," I said. I didn't move away from his touch though.
It felt so damned good, and I was not a stupid man. Well, not always.
"Ride it, Aiden. You're gonna ride it."
"I fucking hope so," I muttered to myself and forced a separation before I did something that would give the people in the bar a show and us arrested.
He chuckled and pointed to the bike.
I straddled it first and he got on behind me.
"Okay, what do I do?"
"First you need to unlock the bike. Put the key in the fork lock right over there." He pointed to the side of the bike under the handle.
The bike wobbled a little when I unlocked it, but Slade put his hand on the handle to keep it steady. My hands shook from nerves.
"I'm going to crash."
Slade laughed.
"I hope you enjoyed your time on this planet. Did you ever think you'd die at the hands of your favorite author?"
He turned my head around to face him and kissed me senseless.
"I can think of worse ways to go than on a bike with my all-time favorite author, but we're not gonna die. At least not before you have a chance to ride me."
I groaned. "Fuck me, Slade."
"I plan to, baby. Now stop freaking out. I'm here to help you."
"Wait," I said, "Are you saying that to distract me?"
He traced my lips with his thumb, and then groaned when I opened my mouth and licked it. "It's really not in my best interests to have you distracted, Aiden. I can ride if you're too anxious."
I turned around and steadied myself. "Nope, I'm doing this."
"Okay, open the door on the ignition switch, put the key in, and turn it to the right."
