He sniffed the air in my direction. “Oh, you think I have snacks? You might be lucky, buddy.”

I grabbed the small box of pellets from my bag and put a few in front of the bunny.

“You have pellets?” Jake asked.

“Yeah, Mal told me we might see bunnies today. I was hoping we would.”

Bunny-Jake sniffed the pellets and ate one, but then he kept looking around as if he were waiting.

“This is a minor miracle,” Jake said. “Look over there to the taller grass patch.”

Two sets of bunny ears popped up from between the green grass.

“Are they your friends, Jake?” I asked the bunny. “Here. Take some pellets for them.”

As if he understood what I meant, he put a few pellets in his mouth and hopped away from us. The two bunnies came out from behind the grass to meet him halfway.

Jake gasped.

“What?”

“They’ve never done that.”

“What do you mean?”

“I’ve known them for a couple of years, and I’ve never seen the three of them properly together. They’re so beautiful, aren’t they?”

They were. One of the bunnies was a little bigger than Jake, and the third one was the same size. It was as if the big one looked over the other two, but clearly, Jake was the social one.

“Look at them, Jake. They’re like you, me, and Mal. See how happy they look together?”

Jake’s eyes were wide as they met mine.

“The bunnies…” he said. “They stick together. They’ve been looking after each other all this time.”

I nodded. There was nothing else I could add. Jake got it.

It wouldn’t be easy to live on a small island like this as a throuple, especially with both Jake and Mal working in the largest business on the island.

Sticking together and protecting each other might not be enough, but the starting point was acknowledging that there was an us. That we were real and valid. Then we’d deal with the next step.

“I think I’m in love with you, Griff.”

I gasped. Surely he didn’t…I didn’t… “What?”

His honest blue eyes reflected all that love back to me. No way I misunderstood.

“I love you, Griff. Mal too. I think I probably have for a long time, but I was afraid. Afraid my feelings were confused, afraid I could never be part of what you two have—”

“I love you too, Jake. And I can guarantee Mal feels the same way. Although you should probably tell him yourself.”

He smiled. “I will.”

“God, I want to kiss you so much right now,” I said.

Jake’s eyes darkened, and he looked behind us for a hot second before he put his hand on the back of my neck and slammed his mouth onto mine.

It was dirty and quick, but the kiss left me wanting more—as if I’d ever not want more of Jake—and tasted a lot like revenge for earlier.
