He grasped her nightgown and started pulling it up when she shifted and thrust her hips into him, knocking him back a little. “No!”

Orin’s hand fisted in the fabric as he met her frightened eyes. Her breaths came faster as her gaze ran over his face.

He’d never seen fear from her before, but it was there now. She’d enjoy this, but not even he was that much of a bastard to push it on her.

Reluctantly, he released the nightgown and let it fall around her feet. “I’m going to have you, Sahira. And when I do, you’ll beg me for more.”

“After what you did tonight—”

“I wasn’t in your room,” he interrupted. “I’m many things, and I freely admit to most of them, but I’m not someone who enters someone else’s room without their permission.”

“Then you sent your shadows to do it.”

“I have great control over the shadows, but I’m not my brother. I can call them to me and use them to cloak me, but I can’t send them out to do things for me. Cole is the only dark fae with such a power.”

CHAPTERTHIRTY-FIVE

Sahira triedto focus on his words, but she was acutely aware of each thump of his heart and his rigid erection nudging her belly. She also couldn’t deny the almost painful ache between her legs.

She’d been so close to release and experiencing the pleasure he could give before he stopped.Because he knew you were close and hoped you’d let him have sex with you.

True, and it was a cruel thing to do, but he had her wound tighter than a spring and on the verge of pleading for release. However, she didn’t beg, and she certainly didn’t screw someone who’d scared the shit out of her earlier.

She told herself that, but her body continued to pulse with anticipation, and her skin had become far too hypersensitized. The slightest touch might make her whimper.

It had been too long since she’d fed and far more time since she last had sex. She hadn’t thought her reckless actions through when she confronted Orin tonight, but she also couldn’t let him keep coming into her room without sayingsomething.

But was he the one here tonight?

Before leaving this room, she wascertainit was him, but he had a point. Before Cole, the dark fae could only cloak themselves in shadows; they couldn’t use them as weapons sent out to destroy their enemies.

Or at least, that’s what the dark fae let everyone believe. They could be hiding a stronger, more nefarious ability.

She trusted the dark fae as much as a lion that hadn’t eaten in a month. At some point, it was going to feast.

And that was what the dark fae did. They devoured anyone in their way and cared little for anything beyond themselves and their loved ones. They shadow kissed others and moved on without any regret over the mindless, sex-craved beings they left in their wake.

She’d always despised the heartless dark fae. Cole had changed her opinion on them some, as had Brokk and Varo, but Orin only solidified her dislike.

“And I’m supposed to just believe you?” she inquired. “The dark fae lie.”

“Not me.”

“You kept my brother locked away and let us believe he was dead. You manipulated and blackmailed Lexi into keeping you hidden in the tunnels beneath our manor.”

Orin shrugged as he stroked her hip. “Those weren’t lies; they were simple omissions for things I needed done.”

If she had her hands free, she’d wipe that arrogant look off his face. It was unfair that someone so cold was this handsome.

How can I be turned on by a man I despise so much?

She had no answer, but it made her loathe him more.

“You twist things your way,” she said.

“I get what I want.”

“And you don’t care who you hurt in the process!”
