“I was looking for a pen and ended up checking out the competition.”
Her laughter was music to his ears. Had there ever been a more lovely sound? He didn’t think so.
“A girl’s gotta stay happy,” she said.
“You’ll get no arguments from me.”
With that, he switched it on. Caro’s mouth parted as he brought the head to her clit and caressed her. She gasped as he teased and played while leaning closer to kiss her.
And what a kiss it was. Saber kissed her like he would never get the opportunity again, kissed her as if she were the only thing in this world and he’d lost himself to her. And she most certainly lost herself to him.
He grasped her hair and pulled her head back as he slid the vibrator into her. She arched toward him as their tongues entwined. The sensation between her legs and the intensity of his kiss caused her body to spiral toward ecstasy.
She’d never done anything like this with someone before, and she wanted more as she came so hard white spots burst behind her closed eyes. She cried out against his mouth as her toes curled and her fingers dug into his hair.
She was trembling and trying to catch her breath when he tossed the vibrator aside. She had no idea where it landed and didn’t care as he grasped her legs, pulled her down the bed, and settled between her thighs.
Before she could fully come down from her orgasm, he thrust into her, and she cried out from the breathtaking sensation of their bodies joining. As the world faded away, there were no demons, swords, and death lurking around the corner. It was just them and the pleasure they gave each other.
It was everything she’d ever wanted and more as her fangs pierced his neck and his blood filled her. Passion and emotion clamored through her, and when he renewed his bite on her, love rushed forth.
It was so sudden and unexpected that she hadn’t known it was coming. But while trying to protect her heart, she’d also been falling for this powerful, broken, stubborn, and often obtuse man.
His tender care for her, inability to see how much his sister loved him and how good of a man he actually was, and his wounded spirit had entangled themselves around her heart. Until, gradually and unbeknownst to her, she’d fallen for the man.
There was a good chance he’d break her heart, but there was no changing this. She loved him.
And she couldn’t let him know. She kept her emotions locked away, contained by a wall, and the mental bond between them closed. If he sensed her feelings, he would pull away from her.
Maybe one day he could know, but he wasn’t ready for that, and she refused to reveal how in love she was with him when he didn’t love her back. He may not love her, but he wouldn’t want to hurt her by not returning her feelings.
Becoming more distant would be his way to solve the problem, and she wouldn’t let that happen. At one time, she’d regretted that fate had chosen him for her; now, she was glad it did. She never would have chosen anyone else.
Grasping her hips, he rolled so she was on top while they continued to feed on each other. Releasing her bite on his neck, she rose over him, and her head fell back as she planted her hands on his chest and came again with a loud cry.
Saber drove into her, and as her sheath clenched around his cock, he pulled out. When he came, his back arched off the bed, a tingle raced down his spine, and he shouted as she collapsed onto his chest.
CHAPTEREIGHTEEN
Caro setthe last sword on the workbench inside her forge and stepped back to examine them. Their stones glimmered in the sun streaming down on them.
It was a little cramped around the bench as the core members of the Alliance had gathered around to examine the final products. Some lower-level members hovered outside the doorway of the forge, curious to see what was happening. Brie’s friends, Cabo and Zina, were in front of them and a little inside the forge.
The king had arrived with a lot of their fighters last week. They’d reassembled all those who had scattered after the attack on the compound. Twenty of their soldiers remained behind to guard the injected who were still imprisoned in their cages.
Nathan had also contacted Juan in Arizona. The leader of the hunters there was sending fighters to join them. He’d spoken with some of the other hunter compounds who had agreed to help the Alliance, but they were also experiencing a surge in Savage activity and were unwilling to send fighters.
War loomed on the horizon, and they needed all the help they could get to wage it. Juan’s hunters would arrive in a couple of days, and some of Willow’s family would join them in this battle.
They had a lot of fighters, but would they be enough? And would they be able to find whoever the remaining stone belonged to?
She had a feeling that, without them, their battle wasn’t worth waging. These stones, and the fighters they chose to wield them, should be together.
Caro eyed the swords as she recalled Brie’s words about Elena. Had the woman touched the sword containing the light pink stone yet? She hadn’t seen it if she had.
But if it wasn’t Elena, then who else could it be? Maybe they’d get lucky and it would be someone else in the Alliance or one of Juan’s hunters, but they had to find them before going after the demons.
“Impressive,” Ronan murmured as he examined the weapons.
