She understood why, but her ribs had healed, her heart had stopped stuttering when it beat, and she could breathe without experiencing stabbing pains. The broken bone in her leg had fused back together, as had the one in her arm.

And she wanted more than a small kiss. Sheneededto reestablish the bond they’d lost.

She didn’t think she’d been officiallydead; it would have been impossible to bring her back from that, wouldn’t it? She frowned as she pondered this, but it would have to be impossible.

No one rose from the dead.

But there was that time in her memory when there was nothing. Just absolutelynothing.

She remembered digging through the rocks before they collapsed on her and then biting him in the SUV. There was nothing in between.

And after biting him, her memories were foggy as she drifted in and out while her body healed from the vast damage it sustained. But even then, she’d floated in and out of some awareness and known she was alive. After that cave-in, there wasnothing.

She shuddered at the memory. You lost a lot of blood and were flattened; of course you don’t remember anything.

Still, that complete unknowing scared her. She didn’t like thinking about it. And shereallydisliked that she’d been so far gone from life it severed their bond; she missed their connection.

Caro ran her fingers up his chest and across his shirt; her skin prickled as it craved his touch, kiss, and the way he felt inside her while they fed from each other. Leaning closer, she breathed in his peppermint scent as she pressed her lips to his throat.

His hands tightened on her, and he shifted away. “You have to heal.”

“I am healed,” she murmured while kissing him again.

He remained rigid against her, but not for long, as she sensed the desire vibrating through him. She leisurely pushed apart the buttons of his shirt until her hand rested against the warm skin of his chest.

When it did, tears pricked her eyes. If it weren’t for him, his determination, and willingness to push his body beyond the blood loss it shouldn’t have been able to sustain, she wouldn’t be feeling the warmth of his skin.

And she couldn’t stop touching him. When she kissed his neck, his pulse raced against her lips.

Her fangs tingled, but she resisted biting into him; she would feed on him when he was inside her. Turning in the chair, the blanket fell away from her shoulders a little, but the fire his kiss created as it sparked through her cells and brought her nerve endings to life didn’t allow the cold to creep in.

Saber’s fingers dug into the ends of the Adirondack chair. Wood bit into his flesh, but he didn’t let the arms go. If he did, he couldn’t stop this because the second he touched her, his fight to keep himself restrained would end.

He couldn’t take her now, not when she’d been so close to death’s door. She was feeling better, but she wasn’t ready for this.

“Caro,” he bit out from between his teeth.

“I feel better, and I’m alive; I’m going to celebrate that, and us, and renew our bond. I miss fucking you.”

He was the snake, lost to the charmer’s spell, and she was the one playing the punji. She knew it too, as her fingers slid over his skin and she nibbled his bottom lip.

That she held so much power over him should infuriate him. There was a time in his life when this knowledge, combined with the loss of control she so easily evoked, would have sent him into a frenzy.

But instead of being infuriated or lashing out to drive her away, he relaxed as she pushed his shirt further open. When their eyes met, love filled her striking, turquoise depths.

Who was he kidding by trying to fight this? He could never deny her anything she needed.

Placing his palm against her cheek, he cupped it as he relished her warmth before running his fingers through her silken hair. He pulled her closer to claim her mouth. Her fingers curled into his shirt while their tongues entwined.

Caro was eager to be with him again. She sensed his need too, but she lost herself in his kiss as her arms slid around his neck and they simply enjoyed the taste of each other.

It had been so long since they shared this, that she’d forgotten how it felt when his touch and kiss awakenedeverypart of her. How it felt to have his muscles bunching and flexing around her while he stroked her.

When she shifted in the chair, her legs fell between the armholes as she straddled him. His cock rubbing against her intensified her hunger for him; she ached so badly that it was borderline painful. He was hard and thick beneath her, and his jeans had to be uncomfortable, but he didn’t protest as she slowly rode him.

Her hands slid down his chest to the button of his jeans, and he breathed a sigh of relief when she released his dick. When he carried her out here to enjoy the sunset, in nothing more than a T-shirt and blanket, he had no intention of this happening. Now he was grateful for it as his shaft rubbed against her entrance, spreading her wetness further.

Shifting a little, Caro drew him inside her as she lifted her hips and slid over him. She moaned as she stretched to fit him.
