“I was thinking of getting her a friend to play with,” he said. I waited to see if there was more to the random statement.

“I’m assuming you mean the girl you’re interested in?”

“Who else would I be talking about.” I turned away from him and bit my fist before I said what I really wanted to say. I needed his insane ass right now.

“Not sure, just felt it was best to clarify,” I said.

“Good idea. It is always best to have a full understanding of any situation. Yes, the girl that fascinates me seems lonely.”

Again with the veiled comments that had me picturing a girl trapped in a cell while he poked at her with a stick like she was an exhibit.

“So you want to get her a friend?”

“Yes, someone for her to play with and talk to,” Wilder said.

“You sound like you’re talking about a dog,” I said.

“No, she is human.”

Oh, for fucks sake, give me strength. “I assumed she was human, but it sounds like you’re talking about a dog. Never mind. What do you mean by get her a friend? I’m pretty sure you can’t just pick one of those up at the store unless you plan on choosing another of the sorority girls?”

“Hmm, I wish I could go to the store. That would make things easier.”

“I have to head inside and finish getting ready for the fight, but if she seems lonely, then getting her a pet would be my suggestion. I’m not sure a random person will have the desired effect.”

“A pet, now that is an interesting idea. What if I got her a friend that could also be her pet? That would serve two purposes in one.” My hand stilled on the door to the front entrance of the club.

I really wanted to ask if he planned on dressing a person up like a dog or cat and telling them to pretend to be her pet. That was some kinky shit that I did not want to picture Wilder doing. Raine wearing a catsuit. Now that had fucking possibilities.

“You getting her a collar, too,” I asked sarcastically.

“You think she’d like that?”

I smiled wide, the asshole in me needing this at the moment.

“Oh yes, I really do. Especially one that you can’t get off and maybe some gemstones to make it look pretty,” I said and chuckled to myself.

“See, this is why I keep coming to you for ideas. She is screaming less lately, and I owe that to you. Don’t worry Snake, I have your back,” Wilder said and then hung up.

I snorted and shook my head as I pictured what he was going to do to this poor girl, whoever she was. Why I didn’t turn this into a game sooner was beyond me, but this was too good to pass up. Wilder never ceased to amaze and surprise me with his ability to confuse the fuck out of me and creep me out. Yet it was comforting to know that the crazy ass that was once a Green Beret would be watching my back.

Beast was coming down the stairs as I walked inside. “What’s the latest,” I asked.

“Nothing good. They divided into four groups and are coming at us from all different sides. I’m sending six guys to watch the back and the families, but….” He stopped, and I knew what he didn’t want to say. It was what I’d been saying all along. Chase left us with our fucking pants down and no one to help.

“Doesn’t matter now. What’s the plan?”

Beast sighed, and for the first time, the mask he had worn for so long as the leader of this club slipped. Worry danced in his eyes.

“I think it’s best to stay in here. This is our home, and we know all the hiding spots.”

I rubbed my chin. “That’s true. Are the cops staying away?”

Beast laughed. “Yeah. I heard from my friend at the department that they are telling their officers to let us fight it out and to stay out of the line of fire.”

“Helpful,” I said, rolling my eyes. “Of course, when we actually want the cops to come around, they are going to ghost.”

Beast shrugged, his big shoulders dropping dramatically. “Makes it easier for us. At least this way, they’re not on our doorstep, and we won’t have to worry about them searching the premises.”
