I am not even halfway done with my meal when I realize she is already fast asleep.

Chapter 11

A Secret Revealed

Amber

Iwakeupalittle confused by my surroundings before the scent of Jackson’s cologne completely envelops me. There is sunlight streaming through the blinds. I must have slept in after last night’s activities. My throat is still sore, and I am just wearing his T-shirt.

I turn to face Jackson, and I am surprised to find his side of the bed empty. He is probably out for breakfast or something.

I take his pillow and take a deep inhale, wanting to have his sweet manly scent imprinted in my brain before slipping out of bed. That is when I hear the tail end of a conversation.

“…I get that. But I feel like that would only pressure her. I am going to confess everything when she wakes up, though.”

As it turns out, Jackson is actually on the balcony talking to someone on the phone. Through the sheer curtain, I can see him pacing back and forth. At first, I assume that the woman he is talking about is Liv until he utters his next statement. “I know, Liv. I know it’s wrong, but I can’t lie to her anymore.”

That immediately has me stopping in my tracks. He has to be talking about me. Who else could he be talking about? The hair on my arms rises and chills run down my spine.

No no no! No. I am hoping beyond all hope that he is talking about someone else.

Overpowered, I collapse on the bed which alerts him to my movement. He stills his movement, ends the phone call, and walks back into the room.

The stricken expression on his face tells me more than I need to know.

“Amber,” he clears his throat. “How much of… uhm… how much of that did you hear?”

Tears sting the back of my eyes. “Not enough. What’s going on, Jackson?”

He paces a few more times before stopping in front of me. “I am going to explain something to you, but you need to listen to me.”

“You’re terrifying me, Jackson. What’s going on?” I grab the sheet off the bed and cover my thighs.

“I didn’t mean to scare you.”

“Then talk to me. What are you confessing?”

“It’s about your father.”

I immediately sat up. “What about my father?”

“I am not just the pilot hired to fly you around. I work with your father.”

“What?” I whisper.

“I—please let me explain. We are business partners, and he is a huge investor in my companies so when he asked me to fly you on my private plane for a little bit, I obliged him. I thought you were a spoiled little kid, but that was before I knew you. Before I knew how hard-working you are. I got to see this whole different side of you, and I like that.”

“Did Liv know?” I ask, not caring that he had asked for time to talk.

“Not everything, but she always sensed that something was going on between us. So, when she called today and I told her you were still sleeping, we started talking.”

“Were you ever planning to tell me the truth, Jackson?”

“Of course,” his voice is gruff with emotion. “I was. I didn’t want to lie to you. I care about you, and I did not want things to go any further before I told you the truth.”

“Sucking your cock wasn’t taking it far enough?”

He flinches at my words. “It was not like that, babe.”
