Amber takes a sip of her wine before responding. “It went well, I suppose. I took the contract. It just makes sense financially, you know? He wants the best for me.”

I nod, even though I’m not entirely convinced. “And what about creatively? Won’t being tied to one company limit your ability to work with others?”

She takes a deep breath before responding. “Maybe, but it’s not like I was inundated with offers before. And I cannot be an influencer forever. I want something more stable, something I can build a future on.”

I can understand where she’s coming from, but it still feels like a loss to me. “I get that,” I say, “but it’s still a big commitment. And what about us?”

Amber looks at me, her eyes softening. “What do you mean?”

“I mean, with me travelling all the time and you being in Mexico, it’s going to be hard to make this work. I don’t want to lose you. We also have to tell your dad. I don’t want him to think that I’m taking advantage of you. He needs to know how we feel about each other.”

Amber reaches across the table and takes my hand. “I don’t want to lose you, either. We’ll make it work.”

I squeeze her hand back, feeling a little better. “Okay,” I say.

Amber nods. “I understand that this is big news, but we can always travel together sometimes. Once the resort is up and running, I’m sure I can escape from time to time. And you can always come and visit me. Also, you said you want to take it slow. What better way of taking it slow than a long-distance relationship?”

I smile at her, feeling a little more hopeful. “I’d like that.”

She also smiles and says, “Imagine how excited we will be when we see each other.” She raises her eyebrows to show me that she means that in a sexual way.

I start laughing and nod in agreement. Immediately I can feel how my pants get a little tighter.

I walk Amber home and invite myself up for a coffee. Every second I have I want to spend with her. Knowing, that we will have a long-distance relationship makes me a little sad, at least all my money will be useful. I will try to fly as much as I can to see her. And I will get her on private jets as much as I can to come and see me. It is going to be an exciting new adventure.

Chapter 17

The Green-eyed Monster

Amber

Ihavejustsignedthe contract with my father, and I am feeling a mixture of emotions. Part of me is happy that I have secured my job and future, but another part of me is sad that I have to sacrifice my creativity and freedom. I decide to put those thoughts aside for now and focus on something positive—surprising Jackson.

I head back to my apartment and start to get ready. I take a long shower, using my favorite lavender-scented body wash. As I towel off, I think about what to wear. I want to look nice but not too fancy, so I opt for a knee-length black dress with a high neckline and long sleeves. I pair it with black heels and simple diamond studs. I check myself in the mirror and am satisfied with my look.

I call for a taxi and head to Jackson’s penthouse. As I enter the lobby, I feel underdressed and out of place. This place is much fancier than my apartment complex, and I suddenly feel self-conscious about my outfit. But I take a deep breath and remind myself that Jackson likes me for who I am, not what I wear.

As I wait for the elevator, I try to calm my nerves. I have never surprised anyone like this before. I am wearing a black thong under my dress and a black lace garter belt over that. The belt attaches to fishnet thigh high stockings.

When the elevator doors open, I step inside and press the button for his floor. The ride feels like it takes forever, and I nervously fiddle with the hem of my dress. I can feel the excitement and heat rushing into my lower half.

I make my way to Jackson’s door and knock softly. After a few seconds, the door opens, and he stands there, looking surprised but happy to see me.

“Hey,” he says, smiling. “What are you doing here?”

“I wanted to surprise you,” I say, feeling a little shy.

“Well, you definitely succeeded,” he says, stepping aside to let me in.

As I enter the room, I take in the luxurious surroundings. The penthouse is spacious and beautifully decorated, with a huge sofa, plush armchairs, and a large flat-screen TV mounted on the wall. I feel a pang of envy, knowing that my own apartment is much smaller and less glamorous.

Jackson seems to sense my unease and takes my hand, leading me over to the window.

“Check out this view,” he says, gesturing to the city skyline. “It’s pretty amazing, right?”

I nod, taking in the twinkling lights and tall buildings. “Yeah, it’s beautiful.”

“You could take such amazing pictures from up here.”
