The next morning, after very little sleep, I woke to the feeling of Marcus's arm laying over my waist. His sleeping form lay beside me, and his body wrapped mine in warmth. I could hear my phone buzzing. I had heard it a few times overnight, but Marcus kept me busy. Taking a few more minutes to bask in the warmth of the bed, I closed my eyes.
Another buzz called me, and I sat up. Marcus’s arm fell onto my lap. He looked different when he slept; his features were less sharp, and there was a softness about him. The intimidating demeanor and all the pretenses were stripped away. What was left was the real man I was beginning to see more and more. I glanced around the room, smiling at the trail of clothing leading from the hallway and strewn about the room.
I looked over to see what woke me. Xander had texted me a few times throughout the night. I could tell him we’d finally resolved things.
Seven times.Memories of last night made my face heat up.
I skimmed the messages.
Marcus’s arm found its way around my waist and pulled me back into bed. The phone dropped back on the nightstand. He pulled me in and pressed me firmly against his chest. He dropped a line of kisses along my neck.
“Morning.” His voice was gruff and scratchy and sodamnsexy.
I turned to face him.
“Mmm, good morning.” I arched up to kiss him.
His thumb stroked my cheek. “Last night was—” He looked over to the nightstand as my phone buzzed against the wood.
“Perfect.” I finished for him and ignored the call. Marcus kissed me and rolled me onto my back. His body weight prevented me from moving to see who was calling.
“Why don’t we order some room service for breakfast?” His lips moved down my neck to my breast, taking a hard peak into his mouth.
I yelped slightly at the contact, arching away from the bed, into him.
Another loud buzz.
“Who is that?” Marcus growled.
“I’ll give you one guess.” I rolled from my spot to the other side of the bed, sat up, and attempted to retrieve my phone.
“Ignore it.” He followed and settled on wrapping his arms around my waist and laying lazy kisses on my neck. It was an attempt to wear at my resolve, and it was working.
“It's the third call; he’ll think something is wrong.” I tried to put some distance between us so I didn’t get tongue-tied. Marcus pulled me back with ease. Xander and I had a rule, three missed calls were a code for danger. Originally, it was born of my own anxiety after he spun out the first time. Now, it was a just a rule we followed.
I picked up the phone and exhaled deeply to regain composure. “Xan?”
“Why are you ignoring my calls and texts? Are you okay?”
“I...I am… sorry, hold on,” I stammered. Marcus was now fully committed to making it impossible to have this phone call. He moved his hand from my waist to between my thighs. I tried to conceal a small cry. I looked back at him as a warning, to no avail. It only enticed him.
“Uhhh,” I began again, but swallowed hard when one of his fingers sank into me. My body betrayed my mind and leaned back into him. “Can I call you later?” I managed to get it all out in one sentence, although the hitch in my voice and the sound of the sheets moving were audible.
“Are you talking to me while in bed with someone?” Xander laughed. We didn’t toe the line of what was appropriate; we skipped rope with it.
Marcus looked at me, an eyebrow raised. “Someone? Who else would it be?” he demanded quietly, half joking, in my ear. He pushed another finger into me.
“Gross,” Xander groaned.
Hardly composed enough to speak, Marcus seized the opportunity and grabbed the phone. He pushed the pads of his fingers against the spot that drove me crazy and stroked it masterfully, rendering me boneless. “Bye,” he said into the phone, hung up, and tossed it into the bed for us to retrieve later.
My mouth was agape in a mixture of surprise and pleasure. “I can't believe—” Unable to think of anything but the mounting pleasure, I said the only thing that came to mind. “Marcus.”
He didn’t respond. His amused smile turned into something wicked. He removed his drenched fingers and shifted so he was on top of me, and pinned my hands on either side of my body while he laid soft kisses on my neck. “Mine.”
“Mmmm,” I hummed.
He got up onto his knees, pulling the sheets out of his way. His eyes were focused on me. “Turn around.”
