A soft chuckle escapes me at the thought. “You don’t feel sorry for me. You don’t seem to be afraid of me either. Let me guess; boyfriend dump you? Thought you were too innocent for him?”

“Oh, trust me, Mr. Broussard. I am far from innocent. ”

“Are you, now? I'm afraid I can't take your word for it.”

She takes the bait and I am more than willing to indulge her curious mind.“It’s best you don’t tempt me any more than you already have, mon cher. I think I’ve warned you enough times already. You’re walking a very tight rope.”

A hint of a smile crosses her pretty face as she pushes her next words out.

“Or else, what? What are you going to do to me, Mr. Broussard? Are you going to force yourself on me? Drug me into submission?” Her voice is softer now, trailing off with unspoken promises. “You’ve had more than a few chances already, just like you said. I’m still unharmed.”

She brings her hand to her lips, wiping them with the back of her hand and I want to take those fingers, put them in my mouth, and slowly lick the sweetness off of her.

Chapter 9

Jacob

“You like playing with words, Miss Stone? I can play your little game. Only, you have to be ready to face the consequences of losing.”

“Damn, you’re good at this, aren’t you? Makes me wonder if anything you say is true or if you just say it to rattle me. You’re actually kind of…” She pauses, looking for the right word and I enjoy watching her little brain working to find just the right way to describe me.

“Kind of, what?” I echo, curious as to what word she’ll choose.

“Weirdly enthralling. I can’t figure you out.”

‘Fast Car’ comes on and my eyes travel the length of her slender neck, moving slowly down her collarbone and stopping at her beautiful breasts. She follows my gaze, then looks down at my legs, and I can almost see the questions brewing in her head. As much as I fucking love that song, I try to keep myself from getting lost in the memories it brings up and focus on this wickedly tantalizing creature sitting right before me.

My distraction must be obvious because her next words are like a punch right in the gut.

“You know, you have me curious. Exactly how long has it been, Mr. Broussard?”

“How long since what?”

She brings her hand to her hair, playing with a loose strand. “You said you haven’t been with a woman in a while. How long has it been?”

“Why do you want to know, little girl? Are you offering?”

“I am just curious, that’s all. A man like you living out here, all alone. I see no telltale signs of a woman’s presence apart from this dress you gave me. I’m assuming it belonged to an old lover. Am I right?”

“Curiosity killed the poor little cat, pichouette.I thought we were talking about sex. Not my previous love affairs.”

She is hooked. I watch as she takes a seat next to me.

Not close. But close enough.

“Is that why you came to my rescue? Because you wanted to sleep with me? Is that all you think about when you see me?”

“Oui.I thought I made that pretty clear, didn’t I?”

“You are enjoying this, aren’t you?”

Having her within easy reach suits me just fine and I take this opportunity and I stand, reversing the roles.

She stays seated, unwilling to admit defeat. Her breathing changes as I take a step closer, and when I reach out and place my hand on her shoulder, she stops breathing altogether.

Standing above her, the curves of her breasts make my mouth water.

“It’s been a very, very long time,” I whisper, hovering right above her, monitoring her every breath, the twitching of her fingers, and the gentle, almost imperceptible tremble in her legs.
