“I’m okay, just tired. Baby hasn’t made me too sick today thankfully.”

“Well, let’s just hope he or she lets you relax for the weekend. I’m sorry we don’t get a honeymoon, Sug.” She gave me a tired smile and reached over to take my hand.

“Nothing to be sorry for, love. We will make up for it later. We are needed here. I would never forgive myself if something happened and we weren’t here.”

“I just wish he would make a move already so we could get him once and for all.”

“Yeah, I’m not sure how much more waiting Belle can do. She doesn’t want Beau to know but she is wound tighter than a rubber band.”

“Oh, he knows. He was hoping the house renovations would take her mind off it but so far it’s not working.”

“Well, what if we gave them all something else to focus on?” I looked over and raised a brow. When she pointed to her stomach, I nodded.

“Could help but are you ready to tell people?”

“I’m not sure how much longer I can keep a secret. It’s killing me to hide it from those we love.”

“Let’s leave this week for Austin’s opening, and then we can tell them.” She nodded.

“Okay, I can work with that.” She closed her eyes for a minute, and I couldn’t help but smile. There was no way she was making the trip home without falling asleep. Reaching over, I tapped the screen on my trucks infotainment system and pulled up a playlist that Vannah had put on my phone and pressed play. Turning the volume down softly, I let her sleep. Pulling into the driveway a little while later, I cut the engine and got out of the car. I went to unlock the front door, turning off the alarm. Moving back out to my truck, I opened the passenger side door and gently lifted Vannah out of the truck. Carefully carrying her inside the house, I closed and locked the door behind me. Putting my keys and phone on the kitchen counter, I took her upstairs to bed, and laid her down on her side. Taking off her shoes, I sat them down on the floor and pulled back the covers. I moved around the bed and shrugged out of my jacket. Laying it down on the bed, I took my shoes off and undid my tie. Unbuttoning my shirt, I pulled it from my pants and undid my belt. Stripping down to my boxers, I climbed into bed and pulled Vannah to me, closing my eyes. I listened to the sound of her breathing and let it lull me to sleep.

The next morning, I woke up early and went downstairs. Taking the bacon and eggs out of the fridge, I turned the stove top on. I was just about to start cooking when I heard my phone ring. Seeing Felix’s name on the screen, I answered.

“Felix?”

“Hey, Cash, I am sorry to bother you on your day off and the day after your wedding, but something has come up. We need you down at the station.”

“I’ll be right down.” I hung up the phone, turning off the stove and putting breakfast away before quietly going upstairs. Grabbing my clothes, I left Vannah sleeping and went to use the guest bathroom to quickly shower and get dressed. Debating on whether or not to wake her, I decided to let her sleep. Seeing a notepad laying on Vannah’s dresser. I wrote her a note.

Sug,

I am so sorry that you are waking up alone. I got a call from Felix who needed me to come in. Message me when you wake up. Hopefully I won’t be gone too long, and I can make it up to you. I love you. C

Tearing the page off, I folded it and put it on the bedside table. I pressed my lips softly against her head before leaving the room and going back downstairs. Taking my phone and keys, I locked the house up behind me and headed for the station. Walking in the door, I was met by Felix.

“Is everything okay?”

“No, we need to move. Dale has crossed over into Georgia and has been arrested. They are holding him until we get there to interrogate him about Holly’s death.” I moved to the gun safe and pulled out my weapon and holster.

“Then let’s go. It’s not going to be easy though.” He nodded.

“Oh, I know.” We both left the station and got into his car. It was better to take his work car than my truck.

“Are we telling Neil about this?”

“I am sure he has already heard by now, but we will call him after we are done. We can’t have him interfering in this. We’ll lose what little we have. He needs to stay with Belle.”

“Do you want me to call Beau and make sure that he does.”

“Yeah, or to let you know if he can’t make him stay. If he moves, we need to know about.”

“On it.” Taking my phone out of my pocket, I pulled up Beau’s number. Tapping my thumb on the name, I waited for him to answer.

“Cash…”

“Beau, I’m sorry to call you so early and on a Sunday.”

“Shouldn’t you be busy right now?”
