“Something is wrong, and I don’t mean the siren,” she said, looking up at Trev.

“Agreed.” He tapped his watch. “They are in their rooms but not moving.”

He twisted his wrist for her to see. “How is that possible?”

“All the reasonable possibilities are not good. Are you able to access the main sleeping quarters from this end of the building,” Trev asked, and she had to force herself to concentrate on him instead of what was happening inside that storage building.

“Um, yeah. There’s a door at this end, just around the corner.” She glanced at the front doors that were still quiet. Her mind raced as she tried to piece together what could be happening with her men, while her heart was scared to death for Jeremy.

“Good…” Whatever Trev was going to say died in his throat as the storage building door was kicked open with a bang.

Jeremy stepped outside, his movements slow, his hands in the air. She couldn’t stop a sigh of relief to see he was still alive. If he hadn’t been…She couldn’t even think about it.

As soon as she saw the gun pressed against Jeremy’s head, she knew that whoever held it would die. Trev didn’t try to stop her this time as she stepped out from under the overhang. Morry marched out until she was stopped.

“That’s far enough.”

She recognized Stephen’s voice right away, even with the loud siren. She wanted to kick herself in the ass for not just shooting the guy in the head when she had doubts the other day. The look he’d given her out on the run told her that he wasn’t as shy and useless as he wanted everyone to believe. But she wanted to help TK’s brother, so she’d pushed the nagging feeling aside. Hadn’t she already learned her lesson when it came to her instincts? Never again. She was never second-guessing that intuition if they made it out of this.

“Put the gun down, Morry,” Stephen ordered.

She looked at the weapon in her hand and then back up at Jeremy. She wished she had a clear shot, but the guy was ducking so low that she could only make out his hair over Jeremy’s shoulder.

“Are you hard of hearing? Put the weapon down now,” he said louder this time, pushing his gun into the back of Jeremy’s neck hard enough that he winced.

Fuck, she hated to disarm herself but slowly laid the gun down on the ground.

“Good, now kick it away,” he said.

She grumbled every swear word she could think of under her breath as she kicked the gun with her toe, so it slid farther away.

“There, see? That wasn’t so hard, was it?”

She hated the arrogant and condescending tone. It made her want to punch Stephen in the face and cut off his balls.

She ignored the snide remark. “Let him go,” she yelled back. “I know it’s not him you want.”

“Do you think I’m stupid?”

“Well, you came here, to begin with, then you lied to me, and now you have a gun to one of my men’s heads. I would say that ranks up there with unintelligent moves,” she said, trying to sound blasé about the fact that he had Jeremy, of all people.

She looked into Jeremy’s eyes. He was trying to tell her something, maybe convey what he was feeling. As she stared into those blue eyes, her adrenaline spiked a little higher, threatening to make her panic. She wasn’t the panicking type, but she couldn’t lose Jeremy now that she’d finally let herself feel again. He’d ripped off the scars and slowly mended what was broken.

“He’s not just anyone, now, is he?” Stephen said, but she ignored the question. “He’s the boy toy, your fuck buddy.”

“What do you want, Stephen?” she drawled and stepped a little to the one side to see his eyes behind Jeremy’s taller shoulder. “You came here, which means you must want something from me. What is it that you want? Money, drugs, guns?”

“None of it. I came here to destroy you.” Those words sat heavy. That meant he planned on hurting her, and he had in his grasp the one person here who could bring her to her knees.

Peering out of the side of her eye, she couldn’t see Trev anymore and knew he’d slipped into some shadow.

“Where are they,” Stephen asked as if reading her mind.

“Who, my Legion members? I don’t know. How about you tell me since none of them are coming out of their rooms? What the fuck did you do to them?” she growled, letting her anger show.

“They’re sleeping, but they will be dead soon enough. Now, where are they?”

“Who?”
