“This is stupid. Jeremy’s going to fuck with your head, then rip out your heart, and you’re playing right into his hand,” she mumbled to herself as she stuffed her legs into the black jeans. “Then you’ll have just one more stupid scar on your heart, like a line carved into the wall of a cell.” She shook her head as she pulled on the black tank. “But you’re going to do it, anyway, because, at the heart of it, you’re a hopeless romantic.”

Morry stepped out of the bathroom, disgusted with herself, that the first thing she looked for was Jeremy. He was in the same position she’d left him, right down to his cock in his hand. He was back asleep, but there were easily one, if not two, loads of come on his chest and stomach. Walking over, she stared down at him in astonishment. It was apparentlyLearn Something New About Jeremyweek.

“Hey.” She tapped the couch with her shitkicker. “Jeremy, wake up.”

“Mmm, just one more round.”

Shaking her head at him, she gave the couch another kick. “Up, now.”

Jeremey’s eyes snapped open with her tone, and he looked up into her eyes, then down at his chest and cock. “Shit, I passed out again.”

“I’m not surprised, you need the rest after that many rounds.” Jeremy looked down at his chest and lifted his shoulder in a casual shrug.

“I can do more.”

“This doesn’t surprise me. Shower is free. I’m heading to see Wolf and Judd, and then we will roll in an hour.” Morry grabbed her leather jacket from the chair at her desk and laid her hand on the door handle when Jeremy called her name.

“Morry?”

“Yeah?” She looked over her shoulder at Jeremy, who was slowly sitting up and she was once more reminded of how he’d sprouted into a man seemingly overnight.

“I was serious last night,” he said, laying his arms on his knees. “You’re mine now. No fucking Judd. Iwillput a bullet between his eyes.” He didn’t wait for a response before standing and walking into the bathroom. The door closed with a click that was as dangerous as the hammer on a gun. Fuck, that shouldn’t turn her on as much as it did, and it certainly shouldn’t create the flicker of hope in her chest.

“Shit,” she muttered and marched out the door.

Morry found the doctor in Wolf’s room as he was finishing up his assessment. “Perfect, I’m glad you’re here. I was just about to come and find you,” Henry said.

“Please tell me it isn’t more bad news, doc.”

Duke’s tail was thumping on the mattress, and she went over to give him some love. His soft fur running under her fingers was as comforting to Morry as her touch was to him.

“Actually, just the opposite. Wolf is responding well to the medication, and the swelling has decreased significantly. He’s still not going to be able to travel for a few days, mind you, but this is positive news. Also, I think Duke needs to use the washroom. He keeps whimpering at me but won’t let me separate him from Wolf.”

Bending down, Morry looked Duke in the eyes. “ Buddy, you have to be good for Doc Henry. I have to take off soon, and you need to let him help you, too.”

Duke made noises that she would’ve sworn were back-talk, but it was probably a good thing she didn’t know what he was saying. The choice words this dog would’ve had for all over them over the years would’ve made a sailor’s hair curl.

“Come on. I’ll take you out now.” She turned to Henry. “Reassure him that you’ll bring him back, and he’ll let you carry him outside.” Henry’s brows rose slowly, and he pushed his glasses up his nose as he stared at her. “I’m serious. He knows what you’re saying. If this dog could speak, the secrets he could tell….” She lifted her shoulder in a shrug. “Once you do it once, and he knows you’re good for your word, he will be ready whenever you come by.”

Henry tapped away on his tablet. “Anything else?”

“Yeah, don’t bother trying to feed him kibble. He will throw that shit up in your shoes when you look the other way. If you’re making steak, make him one too. Having scrambled eggs for breakfast, you might as well make a portion for him. Oh, and he likes coffee with one cream, no sugar, and don’t let him talk you into more than a couple of sips.” Henry’s fingers stopped typing as he lifted his head, and I could see the question in his eyes. “Just trust me. Okay, Duke, you ready to go outside?”

The large dog slowly stood up on his three good legs, and she got herself into position to carry him like she had yesterday. They’d just made it out to the yard when Judd wandered over.

“Yo, Boss. You still pissed?” He stuffed his large hands in his pockets.

She didn’t think he would go after Jeremy again for a while. Then again, being smart wasn’t exactly Judd’s strong suit. Judd was sporting a black eye and a cut lip, which was swollen up like a miniature balloon.

“No, but Jeremy and half the crew will ride with me. I’m leaving you here,” she said.

“Fucking kid. This is all his fault. I should be the one going with you.” Judd swore and crossed his arms over his chest.

Morry glared at her number two. “First, he’s no longer a kid. The shiner you’re sporting should tell you that. Second, it’s only for a few days until Wolf can be transported, and I know you’ll make sure he gets to the compound safely.” She closed the distance to where Judd was standing and stared up at his face. His eyes went wide as she got up in his personal space. “Lastly, don’t ever fucking question me. If you disagree with a decision I make, keep it to yourself, or you’ll end up in the infirmary again, but I won’t be as nice as Jeremy was. Clear?”

Judd ground his teeth together, the urge to talk back evident right down to his short beard twitching, but he wisely nodded.

“Good, now that we have that clear. You’re here until the doc says Wolf is clear to transport.”
