Well? Because what?
Amanda Bailey
Because he sensed something was up and couldn’t explain why. Everyone who knew Gray said how instinctive he could be. That he was at crime scenes before any other media. What if he had a sixth sense that led him to the Alperton warehouse that night?
Oliver Menzies
Do you believe in things like that?
Amanda Bailey
There are some perfectly sane and intelligent people who do. Judy Teller-Dunning is a respected American journalist and author. But when she unexpectedly found some notes after her husband’s funeral, her first thought was that he had ‘shown’ her where they were.

Do I believe it? I am not so sure.

Dear Amanda,
Further to your email, Cold & Unsolved have been beavering away to see what we can find out for you about the case of the Alperton Angels. We’ve been reading news reports in chronological order and can’t help but notice there’s a body that comes and goes.
Harpinder Singh’s body is discovered in Middlesex House on 9 December, having been deceased for several days. His murder is eventually linked forensically to Gabriel Angelis and thus he becomes part of the Alperton Angels mythology.
In the small hours of 11 December 2003 reports emerge of multiple stabbings in an abandoned warehouse. Some early police reports state there are two bodies, some say three, some say four.
Later that day the number of dead is given as three: the ‘angels’ Michael, Gabriel and Elemiah.
But Peter Duffy, aka Gabriel Angelis, the cult leader, is actually on the run. His mugshot is circulated and he’s recognised by a hostel resident in Ealing and caught on 13 December. He’s dishevelled but uninjured. The young cult members: Holly, Jonah and their baby are long since whisked away by the authorities.
This is where the body count takes another turn. Reports now name Christopher Shenk, a local petty criminal, as the ‘angel’ Raphael, and thethirdbody found in the warehouse.
While police officers may have been mistaken over the names, Jonah knew very well which was which and his interview stated that the man he believed to be the archangel Gabriel was dead.
While we have no explanation for this anomaly, members of the Guildford Cold & Unsolved Murder Club believe this should be called not The Case of the Alperton Angels, but TheMysteryof the Alperton Angels.
We’ll keep at this case, Amanda; it’s too intriguing to stop now!
All the best,
Cathy-June Lloyd
