These are the pages torn out of the third extract fromDivineby Georgie Adesina (see page 234). Holly slipped out to follow Gabriel and discovers him reading to elderly people in a care home. She returns to the flat:
INT. LANDING, FLAT – DAY
Holly arrives at the front door of the flat. Stops dead. It CREAKS back and forth. Open. Beyond it the light, gentle tones of a YOUNG MAN’S VOICE. Holly, face blank with terrified realisation, pushes the door, tiptoes in. She follows the voice to her bedroom. Through a chink she sees him: a YOUNG MAN (20s, Asian) holds the Baby, whispers gently in its ear. It makes random noises in response. Holly’s face blanches, she pads quickly to Jonah’s room, opens the door, slips inside.
INT. HOLLY’S BEDROOM, FLAT – DAY – A SHORT TIME LATER
The Young Man paces, jogs the Baby, checks his watch, concerned.
YOUNG MAN (ENGLISH ACCENT)
Left you alone, didn’t they …?
He turns, starts in surprise. Holly and Jonah stand in the doorway, hands behind their backs, faces fixed with terror and determination.
JONAH
Put it down.
The Young Man instinctively hugs the Baby tighter.
YOUNG MAN
What are you, fourteen?
JONAH
(slight indignance)
Seventeen.
HOLLY
You won’t save it. We won’t let you.
JONAH
Put the baby down.
YOUNG MAN
It was crying for forty minutes.
The Young Man holds the Baby firmly. Holly and Jonah look desperately to each other.
YOUNG MAN
It needs feeding, it needs changing—
HOLLY
(to Jonah)
He’s one of them. He’s been sent to save the Antichrist.
JONAH
(to the Young Man)
