NO I FUCKING DIDN’T.

Amanda Bailey

Sorry, Pippa. I had no idea. Need to simmer down enough to read it properly, understand the implications and approach the matter with calm dignity.

ALPERTON ANGELS teen is MONK.

•Still calls himself JONAH

•Found happiness in isolated MONASTERY

•Prays SEVEN times a day

•Wears ROBES, breeds PIGS, brews ALE

•REFUSES to talk about DEATH CULT

By OLIVER MENZIES for WATCHONLINE

A man rescued from the Alperton Angels death cult as a teenager in 2003 now lives at a secluded monastery surrounded by picturesque countryside on the Isle of Wight. Quarr Abbey (pronounced ‘core’) is home to a small community of Benedictine monks who pray seven times a day, farm pigs and brew ale. The monks do not have televisions or mobile phones and avoid using the internet.

Despite his connection to the violent death cult that revelled in sacrificing babies and led to the deaths of four men, the man declares he is finally happy and has found his purpose in life. However, he still refers to himself as ‘Jonah’, the name given to him by cult leader and convicted murderer Gabriel Angelis.

Who were the Alperton Angels?

The Alperton Angels followed cult leader Gabriel Angelis, real name Peter Duffy, and were based in Alperton, north-west London. They believed they were angels whose purpose on earth was to kill the newborn Antichrist during a particular alignment of stars.

Angelis, who changed his name by deed poll in the 1990s, gave his followers biblical names like Michael, Elemiah and Raphael. They targeted runaway teens to help with their supposed divine mission.

The cult came to a bloody conclusion in December 2003 when the mutilated bodies of three followers were discovered in an empty warehouse. The body of a further victim, waiter Harpinder Singh, was linked to the case. Angelis fled the scene but was soon arrested and charged with Singh’s murder.

Two teenagers who had absconded from foster homes to join the cult were taken back into care. Police officers at the time praised the girl and boy, both 17, for alerting the authorities. It was thanks to them the girl’s newborn baby avoided death at the angels’ hands. As minors, their identities were protected.

Where are the surviving Alperton Angels now?

Gabriel Angelis is serving a whole-life sentence at HMP Tynefield.

‘Holly’ the teenage girl and her baby were given new identities and are said to be thriving.

‘Jonah’ has recently been found living at Quarr Abbey and describes himself as finally happy with his spartan religious life.

I don’t read it, but the Daily Watch sidebar popped up in my browser and I couldn’t help noticing a story by Oliver M about Brother Jonah. Did you know he was writing it?

Amanda Bailey

No. And I am royally pissed off.
