He was listening that night. He heard chatter about a baby born in an old baby food warehouse and set off to photograph it. His deadline was the following day. He was low on copy and scrabbling for whatever he could get. An atmospheric nighttime shot and feel-good story might just make it.

Blue paint found on the second floor was where Elemiah rehearsed the symbols used to mark the spot the angels would meet their contact. Later, those practice marks would be erased, causing doubt in the mind of one officer and a discrepancy between their accounts that reinforced the mythology and continues muddying the waters even now.

Dark forces were at the warehouse alright, but they were very real, and they were there because Ashleigh, the girl Gabriel had first called ‘Holly’ and tried to enlist for his failed plan in 1990, was following the angels and alerted the police. She knew how he operated and wanted to save the new Holly from him.
