The night ended up being another shitshow while I ignored Dad’s lecture about my work ethic the best I could, got my day’s load done, and now I text Sadie that I’m five minutes away from arriving back at her place. Once I pull up toward her complex, she’s holding an orange cat, and I dial her number.
“Hello?”
“Are you trying to get me fired?”
“No?”
“Ditch the cat.”
She scoffs. “No way. We’re a package deal.”
Groaning, I get out of the car, slip my phone into my pocket, and stroll along the pathway. “Kylo doesn’t do pets.”
“Jinx is an outdoor cat, so she won’t get in the way. It’ll be like she’s not even there.”
“Hey, I could care less. Bring the cat if you want, but Kylo will tell you no.”
“We’ll see about that.”
I smirk, arching a brow.Yeah, we’re gonna get along fine.“Alright, where are your bags?”
“My suitcase and duffle are by the door.”
Grabbing her stuff, I head for the Porsche, waiting for Sadie as she waves to her neighbor before getting in the car with her cat. “Keep her on your lap.”
“Don’t worry. I won’t set Jinx loose to wreak havoc inside your fancy car.”
Not my car, but if anything happened to the interior while I’m using it, Dad would probably disown me—not the worst idea.
“It’s my dad’s. Not my style, and I’m only borrowing it until my Mustang gets fixed.”
“Ooh. Yeah, a muscle car suits you more.”
I smirk, ready to create chaos in a world of perfection. “Alright, let’s go surprise Kylo.”
Sadie whips her head toward me, and her cat stirs in her arms when I pull into traffic.
“What?” she asks, her eyes wide, and I lean back on the seat without another word. Maybe it’s a dick move, not informing Kylo Sadie’s returning so soon, but being caught off guard will be good for him. He would’ve started planning immediately, worrying rather than relaxing and taking his time.
Plus, I’m an asshole.

YOU COST ME A PRETTY PENNY
The office on the second floor is being renovated. Last week the walls were re-painted white with a dark grey accent wall along the back. Today movers brought in a black desk, leather couch, other furniture, and a massive abstract painting as a focal point of the accent wall, with red, white, and black throughout. The interior is open, visible through the floor-to-ceiling windows that take up the office front wall, which means whoever occupies that space has eyes on everyone.
Red, the owner, rarely comes to Vivid. He’ll drop by every few months to make sure everyone remembers who the boss is, but Gin has always been in charge. No one has used that office in years, so why the renovations?
It’s another full house this weekend, and I end my seductive aerial act with a grin as I unwrap my body from the red silks. My blood’s pumping, adrenaline coursing through my veins as the crowd cheers, both men and women coming to watch the show before they venture out to other aspects of the club, most of them heading to the basement, some voyeur, and I have a break before my first customer of the night at 7:00.
Once in the dressing room, I remove the sheer white one-piece that’s riding up my ass and throw on my street clothes. I have an hour all to myself, and I’m starving, sneaking out the back door for my favorite taco shop down the street. Zipping my jacket, I stroll along the sidewalk and close my eyes as the wind blows, cooling my heated skin. The best way to come down from the high is good food and company as I enter the small building with several customers eating along the left wall.
“Hola,Evie,” says Marina, the owner, who glances over her shoulder at the clock. “Is it 6:00 already?”
I walk toward the counter. “Hey, and yup. Busy day today?”
“Always. What can I make for you?”
