To wake up to coffee and his head between my legs. Get to know each other on the deepest level, and explore aspects of ourselves we never knew existed. So when one day comes, our children will grow up experiencing how much their parents love each other. I want them to see affection as ordinary behavior that comes naturally, never forced. Never pretend. That forever type of love because with Lennox, it’s that simple.

Spinning to face him, I step onto my toes and thread my fingers into his hair as our lips connect. He glides his hold to my thighs, lifting me to straddle his waist as we fall to the bed, and I suck in a sharp breath when something hard digs into my ass.

“Ow—” I cry, my head falling back as I giggle, and Lennox laughs into my neck, removing the baby item from beneath me.

“Sorry.”

“Don’t be.” I smile, shaking my head. “But I do need to finish wrapping, or we’ll be late for the party.”

“I’d rather be late with you.”

“Yeah?”

“Mhm.” He kisses just below my ear, then nips, smirking against my skin as I moan, knowing what his mouth on that spot does to me. “You taste good.”

Pressing him back, I purse my lips and straighten up to rest on my elbow. “Tease.”

“And you love it.”

I smirk, lifting the skirt of my dress while rubbing my thighs together. “So much you got me wet.”

“Damn. If I don’t step out of the room now, I’m gonna put you to sleep.”

“You better, later.”

Lennox grins, peeking back at me when he reaches the door just as I spread my legs wide to show my panties, and he groans, “Peaches.” Then walks out of the room.

Doesn’t take long to finish stuffing the box, hoping Kylo and Sadie get good use out of these items. Only a month left until the baby arrives, time passes by too quickly, and I can’t wait to meet him or her.

My phone brightens with an incoming call, and my smile falters at the number. “Hey, Dad.”

“How’s my baby girl? I feel like we haven’t talked in months.”

Because it has been.

“I can’t talk long. Getting ready for Sadie’s birthday party.”

“How is she? I tried to call her, but the number is disconnected.”

Grabbing the tape, I start covering the box with wrapping paper. “Good. She’s getting married and having a baby.”

“Oh, wow. I’ll have to send Sadie something nice.”

I sigh, place the tape on top of the box, and sit on the edge of the bed. “You could come visit here, you know. I’m sure she’d like to see you instead. I’d like to see you.”

“Sweetheart, you know I can’t. Come to San Francisco. You’re always welcome to come home.”

“I am home. I didn’t have a choice before, but I’ve never felt more at home than I do right now, and you don’t even know why.”

“Know what?”

“What hurts is you were the first person I wanted to call the day my life changed because a girl needs her dad, you know? But as much as you tell me you love me, we aren't as close as we once were, and not knowing how you’d react makes me afraid you’d disapprove. I’m not sure I want to tell you. Or Mom. Neither of you deserves the news with the secrets you’ve held back over the years, so I’ll keep mine.”

“Evie, wait. Where is this coming from?”

“Ready?” Lennox asks, poking his head back into the room, and I blink away my tears.

“I gotta go.”
