“Stealing? You can’t seriously be this dense and ignorant of what goes on in your club? Maybe if you stop eye fucking your employee’s from afar, you’ll realize who’s stealing from you because it’s not me.”

Damn, that’s my girl.

Jared glances at me before he towers above Sadie. “I’m well aware of what goes on inmy club, and my decision is final. Get. Out.”

“Gladly.”

Sadie strides out of the dressing room, and the rest of the Vixens follow when Jared nods his head toward the exit. I step back onto my station, not taking my eyes off him as he strolls toward me with his hand in his pocket. My chest rises faster as he stops inches from me, silent before reaching behind me and picking up my paper dove.

I want to snatch it back, but then I risk ripping it. “Don’t touch that,” I seethe, clenching my jaw when he chuckles, running his index finger along the delicate wings, up the neck, then smirks, placing it back on the table, leaving just as quickly as he came in.

It takes me a second to come to my senses, striding to my locker to grab my coat and purse, then to Sadie’s next for her stuff. Bringing everything but her coat out to my car, I rush back to find security escorting Sadie out of the VIP area, where Anna is smirking.

“I have your bag in the trunk. Let’s go,” I say, and Sadie takes her coat from me.

“Thank you.”

Gin’s watching us with her arms crossed, but I don’t stay a second longer as we leave straight for my car through the dressing room exit. “Why didn’t you tell me you were having problems at work?”

“You’re stressed enough, and I didn’t want to add more to your plate. Kylo and Lex have been watching Anna while I’m here.”

Watching Anna? Why would they?

“Kylo knows—wait, Anna…are you talking about Leanna, the regular Kylo cut-off? Drives a white car?”

“Yes. She’s been stalking the cabin and most likely followed me here.”

“I knew that bitch looked familiar—Leanna is Kylo’s longest client. I think since he started his business. They came to Vivid a few times, to the velvet room in the basement, but they stopped about two years ago because she wanted to start booking voyeur with me. Since we were both his clients, he didn’t feel it was appropriate.”

We jump inside the car as a gust of wind blows past us. “They came here together…did you forget how she looked?”

“I didn’t pay her mind, but I remember she had long hair.”

Sadie tears up, and it makes me frown. “She called me Love, Evie. Declan calls me that…do you think she’d go to the extreme of looking me up, finding out about my ex-husband? Stirring shit up to get me away from Kylo.”

That wouldn’t be good. “I have no idea.”

She leans back in her seat and closes her eyes, taking deep breaths while I drive out of there, getting her far away from this place. Somewhere I never should’ve brought her.

FOURTEEN

BETTER NOT JINX ANYTHING

I’m a patient man, but today that patience is running thin as I show Kevin how to work a saw. Brush up on skills, my ass. Jimmy’s kid is starting from scratch. At least the other hire, Leonel, knows what he’s doing.

“Alright, go on and start your conventional wedge,” I say, and Kevin nods, doing a straight cut, then another at an angle below it, careful not to overcut, keeping it clean. “Good. Now, what’s the next step?”

“The back, adding wedge blocks, and leaving a four-inch hinge.”

My pocket vibrates, and I draw out my phone. “Good. Start on that.”

Stepping aside, I keep an eye on Kevin while answering Kylo’s call. “Hey, what’s up?”

“Can you get off early today? I need to speak with you and Adam.”

I look at my watch, it’s a quarter to three now, and I’m usually out by five. “Uh, probably, yeah—whoa, whoa, stop! You’re cutting too deep—” I rush toward Kevin, yelling to get his attention, and wave my hand to show him enough. “Ky, I’ll call you back in five.”

Ending the call, I place my phone in my pocket and run my hand across my jaw. Any deeper on the left, there would’ve been a big chance this tree kicked back as it fell.
