“The mediator is going to help you two come to a solution. If we don’t like what Drew wants and we can’t agree, then we’ll take it to court.”

Kailynn pulled her lip between her teeth and nibbled on it. The company seemed to be in the bag for her, but she still worried it wouldn’t work in her favor. However, the main reason she was filled with anxiety had to do with Chase. They were about to find out if they could be together. If Drew dragged this out, it would put their relationship on hold—something she wasn’t sure she could handle.

And, once again, Drew would screw up something else in her life. He didn’t deserve to have that kind of power.

Chase’s hand took hold of hers under the table, and he gave it a squeeze.

“It’s all going to work out.”

She smiled and relaxed. “I was actually trying to figure out what would happen between us if this gets pushed out.”

He gave a frustrated sigh. “I’m going to really hate Drew if we have to push this back even longer.”

Kailynn giggled. “Me too. He’s done enough damage. The least he could do is give us this one.”

“Exactly!”

His eyes darkened, and he leaned forward, dropping his voice to a whisper, “I can’t wait to get you alone on my desk.”

Air whooshed out of Kailynn’s lungs, a bolt of warmth shooting straight between her legs. A low moan escaped her lips, quiet enough that only Chase could hear.

The waiter approaching with their food had them both leaning back in their seats.

When they were alone again, Chase winked at her before taking a bite of his food.

Her mouth was dry, and she imagined herself sweeping all the food off their table so she could climb across and grab Chase’s tie, pulling him to her so she could do dirty things to him.

Her nipples pebbled beneath her shirt, thinking about what might happen in just a few hours if they came to a settlement today.

Taking a deep breath, she picked up her fork and speared a piece of lettuce.

Drew better not fuck this up.

Chase walkedKailynn into his office and closed the door behind them. They had won. They had gotten everything they asked for, all because of Drew’s mistake. Chase couldn’t have asked for a better outcome. The mediator helped them decide that this was the best outcome. Chase suspected Diana had talked some sense into Drew that taking it to court would be incredibly unfavorable. The damages could have been substantially worse if the judge decided to make an example out of Drew for stealing money from his partner.

But Kailynn and Chase were happy to just get the company in her hands without her owing much to Drew, so little, in fact, that she wouldn’t have to take out a loan.

Kailynn turned around as soon as they were alone and tears sprang to her eyes. “I don’t know how I can ever thank you.”

“You just did.”

Her arms came around his neck as she buried her face in his chest, tears of relief streaming down her cheeks. “You’ve done so much for me. I can’t thank you enough.”

He held her tight to his chest and whispered in her hair. “You don’t need to thank me. I’m so happy I could help.”

They stayed that way for several minutes before Kailynn pulled back slightly, but stayed in his arms. She tilted her chin up at him and smiled. His hand came to her cheek, and he wiped at her tears with his thumb.

She felt amazing in his arms. Her small body fit against his perfectly. Now, he was finally going to get the chance to date her, to see if they could be more.

“Let me take you to a celebratory dinner.”

“Sounds amazing.”

She stayed in his embrace, neither of them attempting to move.

“We can invite Abi and Logan if you want.”
